Hi,

We lost our whole flock of pullets. We had two Easter Egger (got our very first egg yesterday), a Delaware, Swedish Flower, and a Welsummer. We are first time chicken owners and finally we got an egg then BAM. My 3 year old is so sad. 3 were mangled and 2 vanished. I want to take a couple days to reinforce the top of the run. It's surround by hardware cloth within a chain link fence over a concrete slab but the top of the run was plain chicken wire. I want to recover with corrugated plastic. Any birds for sale or tips would be great.

We live on Cape Cod. I feel defeated and don't know if I can start the process over again.

Hello there,

I am so sorry to hear about your flock! :hugs That is never a fun thing to experience.

I had a fox take two of my guinea fowl, made a turn up our street, through our woods and back to it's den. Most likely you have a fox.

One was ate... The other was left as a sad pile of feathers, near the den. In less than an hour a fox could devour ninety chickens. Sad.

I would say you have a fox. The way to get rid of foxes... Is a whole other story.
A trap will do the trick, or a gun. Even something loud or bright by your coop.

What are your laws in town... Can you shoot it? That is what I did.

Good luck, God speed, may this never happen again.

Sincerely,
The Angry Hen

What took your birds isnt what you should be thinking about... I would only think about securing your coop/run... Is your run covered? My guess would be maybe a eagle or hawk gotten to your chickens and some had gotten out of the coop during the mess... Either that or my guess would be raccoon.. We had a recent raccoon attack.. Caught 7 of those nasty creatures and killed em' stopped having problems after that.. But more then half of our flock was gone and only a few carcasses were left behind..
