Was your 1588 TOO HOT when you did your first hatch from it???????????

Don't you let your incubator run empty for a few days before putting eggs in it just to make sure everything is set properly?

It says to not use important or expensive eggs in it the first time. Only problem is, when you use shipped eggs, they're all expensive!

The instructions do say to trust the incubator and not your gauge the first time, so that's what I'm doing. For the sake of my chicks, I hope it's ok. I'm not gonna complain too much or praise this thing until after the hatch. If I get anywhere close to 50% with shipped eggs & it being the 1st time, I'll be satisfied.

exactly! 50% in ANY hatch is something to be happy about, i know it could of been better..but it also could have been a lot worse. I was actually thinking about changing the temp in it now once i thought about it more. Better to do it now and see what happens with the tester egg's, rather than wait till they are done, change the settings, and then throw in another expensive batch. Am i thinking the right way here?

I won't have time to run test eggs. I have eggs coming from Speckled hen and these eggs are very important. I had to buy a new incu cuz the one I have quit near the end of the hatch so I moved the eggs to a broody hen. I hope they work out, but I have no choice but to use it w/ important eggs. I can't get more from her as she's not going to have eggs to seel again. Not Dels anyways.

I wish you luck. Me thermo's are still reading the same, 99.5 & 102.00... hey, at least the thing holds steady!

Lockdown is at 10 p.m. tonight. Not going to candle anymore, as they all have substantial development, but several don't have the typical aircell. So we'll see what happens.

Regardless of what happens, I'll probably get one of those spot check thermometers, because hatching is hard enough when all the conditions are perfect.

Speckled Hen isn't going to raise Dels any more? Anything else?

I've got my first batch of eggs in a 1588 right now. It's doing great. The temp has been 99.7 - 100.4. I've only got 7 eggs in it, so I put a water bottle in to help.

It was fine, then it got warmer as the hatch went on. I had to make it cooler. It's always hatched my eggs early, but the chicks have always come out good, clean egg interiors. What helped me with the temp sways is laying a piece of bubble wrap loosely over the top of the bator.
