Washing fresh eggs or not ?

Oh dear, I never wash my eggs! I didn't know you were meant to wash them!

My plan was not wash and put them directly in the fridge. So should I wash directly before use?

I grew up with the idea that cooking takes care of germs, but you don't want manure flavor in your food.

So when I wash eggs it is purely to make the shell look clean, and I use plain water. And I usually just don't bother, as long as the egg looks mostly clean.

I also cook all eggs, and foods with eggs, completely (no runny yolks.) Because I grew up doing it this way, that is "normal" to me, for both home raised and store bought eggs. I do not know what level of cooking makes what difference to egg safety.
