Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Which wormer are you using? With Eprinex you don't have to withhold eggs. And that IS a good haul for your birds right now! Mine are laying pathetically.

Valbazen .... With the dogs here too...and valbazen kills EVERYTHING that isn't supposed to be there. I just wanted to get it all done at once... So they are being wormed with it too.... Btw, i am using it off label....

Just checked on the brood again. They seem fine, and Lucy isn't hurting them, but she's a bit distant and isn't "mothering" them either. Whenever I pull them out from under her she pecks gently a little bit but mostly ignores them. Hoping her instinct will kick in soon, maybe they just need more time.

One of the Speckled Sussex is quite tenacious and every time I pull her out, she pecks at Lucy's wattles. Over and over again. It's hilarious. And Lucy isn't hurting her back, just sitting there letting her do it. Maybe that's a good sign.

Sounds like maybe she'll take them... (Fingers crossed) ......

Yeah Eprinex (and most chicken wormers) are used off label too. I am thinking about using that in the fall when everyone starts to molt and isn't laying a lot anyway, and Eprinex in the spring when laying is picking back up. I need to worm them soon, so I don't have to worry about it this summer.

How old are they? Are they the age for eating yet? I might be willing...for a meal though.

If you just want them gone, Monroe Farm & Feed (I think that's the name) takes extra cockerals.

Not the age for eating yet. They are 2 weeks old. And I can already tell I have a bunch of little boys lol

That's basically my plan, valbazen in the fall, Eprinnex in the spring..... But after reading on the boards, I got worried as I figure the guy I got them from prob hadn't wormed the and so I might(lol) have gone a little overkill.... Oh well, the nice part was I got to really see what is being laid.....
....and no worms ;-)

Bummer! If they were at slaughter age I'd totally take them and eat them, but I don't want to brood them. Sorry! I hope you find someone to take them. You could also raise them until they're ready to be off heat then take them to the Enumclaw Sales Pavillion auction. It's every Saturday at 11am, you have to check your birds in sometime between 8-10:30. You wouldn't get a lot, but at least you'd get *some* compensation for them.

Yeah, I'm going to wait until they are a little bit older because I do want to keep a few of them to breed/show. I've usually taken the extras to auction. It's a little better than just giving them away lol

Did you ever get an urge you just couldn't resist, and you add up your order and realize the "6" chickens you are "allowed" to have turned in to say......21???

The chicken math has hit the fan

I keep telling my husband the neighbors wont notice if instead of 10 poultry we have 15 chickens and 5 ducks. but he says no, that they will stink to much. Not sure how they could stink any worse then they do now though. I need to put more "litter" in there. i'm out of leaves and have to move to straw :(

You both have more control than in do lol. My first order was 15. After that I ordered 60. I just placed another order for 50 to add to the ones I have. And they are coming this week. Oops :)

EDIT: this was supposed to quote both of the previous posts lol
