Thanks for the *hug*!
I appreciate your words SO much. I knew we'd eventually be faced with possibly having to kill our birds (or let nature take its course) but I just wasn't mentally prepared yet. And the fact that it was so gruesome (I almost threw up) and at was 3 a.m. made it even harder.
I couldn't let her suffer all night like that. I am now finding peace in the notion that I found her that way for a reason, so that she wouldn't have to suffer all night long just to meet the same fate. We did right by her, ended her agony. I'm just so sad because she was my favorite.
It took me a few days (obviously) to share this with y'all, because it was so hard to write/talk about. But now I wish I would have shared sooner. This community can be so healing, thank you.
For two days in a row, my bad girl George has been dropping her eggs in front of the heater in the house. I open the door and there it is, just to my right on the floor. I KNOW it's her because her eggs are slightly darker than the other girls' and they have dark brown speckles. She's almost as bad as Mary, my sweet barnyard mutt who'd just lay her egg in the yard. She used to lay in the boxes, but one day decided that she'd had enough and would just pop them out wherever she pleased. She's at least nine now. I know I posted a picture of her earlier, but here's another one.![]()
This one is from a few days ago. The darkness really brings out the buff/golden feathers in the picture, but in normal light they're slightly more muted.
Just for fun, here's one of my psychotic BLRWs that I affectionately call the Christmas Geese (still sound goosey!). I got her and her sister from Ron last summer.

If you ever have a small-rodent problem, I can lend you the nutty BLRWs at a cheap rate. They murder small birds and rodents with great gusto!
Note to Ron: I'm not trying to make you feel bad about these two at all. I care for them very much despite the fact that they rip small creatures to pieces and play keep-away on a semi-regular basis.![]()
