Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Rhodebar are the breed that auto sex all the time right. The rooster are awesome with their multi-color look. You are a very lucky lady to get that kind of gift, maybe after you get some and I get some chicks of my SPR's we can trade some to keep both lines going like Bob and the other heritage breeders are doing.

Oh, pretty pretty!

I have a 14 mo Black Australorp that seems to have gone broody - in the hottest part of the year no less. I believe it is the second time she has done this -I have 2 BA's - not sure if it was this one - went broody a few months ago, but was able to break her easily that time. She's having none of this pushing her out of the nest this time - even tho there are NO eggs under her.

Wondering should I try to find a few eggs for her to sit (I have no fertile eggs myself) - or try harder to break the broodiness since it is so hot?

Suggestions? Advice?

I just like that its a blue egg laying breed that isn't an aracauna (don't want to deal with lethal gene) or ameracauna (I've raised them, like them ok, but would like to try something else). I have always sold eggs to offset feed bill and even though I don't care about egg color occasionally a customer will.

Plus they're intriguing because of all these weird breeds people are importing they are one of the only ones that has actually stated and is working on APA acceptance, which is of utmost importance to me.

Edit: oh and I love the hens coloration, reminds me of my Crele OEG, but softer, I used to raise and I loved that color on the females.
There is now an official Appenzeller Spitzhauben Club working on APA acceptance. We expect to have our big meet in Oklahoma in September.

I've hatched about six or seven batches of chicks now, and the earliest I can remember anyone crowing is eight weeks.

So I was shocked when I heard this little guy a few days ago, at around 5 1/2 weeks.

Making up for his tiny size, perhaps?

Four weeks was the earliest I have had anyone crow

Here is what I've been told by moderators and the admins.
follow the rules.
They do not luke on the forum looking for misdeeds, but rely on reports from members, then they investigate and take action if warranted.
My conclusion is; someone is reporting all infractions in a spate of revenge, ill humor or what ever.

The big thing I think is to purchase the platinum feather. I can't afford it and if I did, I wouldn't have much use for it as I don't have anything to sell/barter.  If you obtain the platinum feather then you can list your business, etc, etc in your signature line. I don't remember all the things you can do, I hight recommend that you read the rules and look at the req of the platinum feather.

Since most of the knowledgeable people have left, this forum has slowed down eminsley, but with the infusion of the new peeps it is picking up but I fear  we will never reach the back and forth of the last few years. It is a sad thing. Mike

Some haven't left entirely, but I like the fact that I can be on one site and be in touch with all my groups of friends, so I spend most of my time there. :) I like to pop on here to see what's going on. Looks like lots of nice new peeps!

I don't enjoy "walking on eggshells." The rules may not have changed, but enforcement certainly has.

Yup.

And I don't much like the idea that we cannot complain without being smacked down, it's downright Un-American.
