I also don't wash eggs. At all. They go from the nest box (never, ever poopy or dirty that I've found) straight to the counter top or fridge, and are then cracked into a pan. When I took eggs from my friends' coop, all her eggs were disgustingly poopy and washed right away. Those went in the fridge directly and I used them first. I have no idea why all her eggs are so gross! Though after I cleaned her coop they were pretty clean. I told her that the hens were sleeping in their nest boxes instead of the roost because her nest boxes are higher than her roosts. She went home and had her DH raise the roosts and he's gonna lower then nest boxes next weekend so the broodies can be given eggs. Hopefully they'll all start laying in her nest boxes instead of on the floor.

i have 16 chickens and potentially 13 or 14 of them are laying. I should not have only 2 eggs today. Maybe its the weather going from cloudy to sunny to raining in a matter of 20 minutes but i have no clue lol.

I wonder what my girls are thinking of this new thing called hail? I know I'm not thinking to highly of it right now....

I had to laugh! I was standing by the window overlooking the backyard when the hail started...it caught The Girls free ranging. They were all a-flap and a-cackle until they got under shelter. It was tiny hail, so I think they were surprised, not hurt, so it was pretty funny.

Haha, I have to laugh. The day I spend here moaning and complaining that my girls aren't laying enough eggs, all 8 of 8 confirmed layers gave me an egg today! And one of them was HUGE double yolker! LOL Maybe they know I'm frustrated ;) I do still wonder why 2 of the ones who were laying from late summer on, stopped laying completely :( Sad.

Are green beans poisonous to chickens? I'm finding mixed responses.

Tonight I gave a bunch of the kid's leftovers to the big girls. They pigged out on all of it, but left what looked like most, or all, of the cooked green beans in the bowl. I though that was odd. So, I came in and looked it up. Some people say green beans are poisonous to chickens. Are they?

What my girls may have eaten a little bit of today were cooked green beans...
