Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

And here I was afraid I'd have 6 days of pages to read, only to see there was but ONE...what gives WA ???????????????????????????
Here is something to see, what I have been up to the last 3 days:

I LOVE this refrigerator...not too big, and I am so sick of bending over UNDER an upper freezer...with this, there is no need to bend so far ovwer & have to practically crawl into the fridge...It is awesome !

Well....plus I have primed & put 2 coats of paint on door trim, and tomorrow I sparvar the window sills............................the 26th the carpet arrives.
Sad, we were trying to have the place somewhat ready in order to have the kids/grandkids here for Christmas...................but cabinets & carpet are not due til after Christmas...darn it all.
We can certainly eat on saw horses/plywood tables, lawnchairs and hook up the TV....

That looks Awesome! I'm rather jealous. Wish my house looked that good.

CL, that all looks awesome! And don't worry, first Christmas is one you will remember even if half the stuff is missing. Our first one up here was the same. Plastic table and chairs, air mattresses, but it was good anyway.
Yeah, with the rain and stuff here, a silkie is probably not a good idea. We sold the goats dues to the wetness, so I guess I'll just stick with regular chickens.

I like the ones we have, so I thinks I'm going to stick with J.G.'s, Marans and Ameraucanas for now. Get lots of blue chickens in the spring!

Sheesh have been so busy with work and travel havent been on in 6mo. I have a silkie with my flock "Pearl." She has to be one of the most shy birds I have. She doesnt run from me, but she just follows everyone around and doesnt make a peep or show any aggression even to my chihuahua's. I built a new run/coop and covered 3/4 of it as I found none of the chickens are very happy when they are soggy wet and trudging through the mud/muck. Oddly enough all my lil ladies started laying eggs about 2 weeks ago full time. Here it is wintertime and I am becoming overrun with eggs!

I give my silkies a bit of a trim in front so they can see since I don't show them. I've had good luck with them raising chicks. The rooster actually earns his keep with the chicks by helping out the hens. He also takes care of the chicks after the hens are done with them. I leave the broody silkies in the silkie pen to raise chicks since all of the silkies will let chicks sleep under them at night.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX You are so lucky to have an exact "climate" with your flock...it happens rarely.
I have had it, and then raised replacement cockerels, butchered the old cocks, and it has not been the same since...SIGH!_ I wish the newbies got along as well as the oldies did !

We have had a lot of sadness in our area. On Dec 6 a friend lost her son so have been trying to help any way we could.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I lost my daughter on 17th Dec 16 years ago, then a week later, on Christmas eve mother died. It's still hard. I hope you can help your friends, holidays will always be hard for them. From one who went through it, one of the best things to do for them, is talk about it. Talk about her son, (did you know him well?) She will want to talk, even if it's hard for you to know what to say. My sympathies to you all.
