I'm going to try to go. It all depends on when the Breeders Day is in Shelton and if I have any dogs that need their Rabies renewed.

Have you considered bantam Salmon Faverolles?  I know a few people that have them and really enjoy their appearance, mild personalities, egg laying, and I believe they are auto-sexing at about 2 weeks.  I haven't raised them so I don't have personal experience, I've just heard friends praising them.


 

Faverolles did make the original short list, but as bantams were nixed for this year. Once I figure out who has what within traveling distance, switchouts MAY happen. It will all depend on the Hammies temperaments. I DO want them wary of strangers and not easily caught, as they will be foraging and doing pest control and my 5 foot fenced yard is STILL on main street. But that also means that I don't want them freaking out so bad all the time that they are constantly jumping the fence in pure unwarranted fear. Wings will be clipped so they won't fly 3 blocks over at least! Lol

Eliz has it marked on the calendar, its the closest show for me.…..and kudos for the Bantam Salmon faverolles…..endearing easy keepers and i think lay more eggs than the LF.

Hellooooo washington peeps!

I've browsed the forum for years, but only recently decided to make an account and become active in the community, so popping in to say hello, along with a serious question:

I know how important it is to have a backup plan with unwanted chickens, and I am wondering at what point I need to start making mine, and if you have suggestions for local options.

Story: I am not allowed to have roosters, but have 24 pure Araucana hatching eggs en route. Figuring in damages, infertile eggs and the lethality of the tufted gene, I do not expect more than 6 to survive. Here's to hoping all six will be female, however you and I know that's not the reality of Mother Nature. At what point should I start searching for homes (counting eggs before they're hatched ring a bell?) and where do I head first?

Note: Araucanas purportedly cannot be sexed, therefore I won't know who needs rehoming until I hear that first "crow".

I was at the co op in Monroe on Tuesday and they had loads of them. Not sure where you are from though....
