Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Buff silkies available. I have a buff silkie roo (6 months), a younger silkie that I THINK is female 2ish months, and my order from Murray McMurray came in today but they substituted my 5 blue silkies with 2spradle legged blues (im really ticked off) and 4 buffs. If anyone's intrested in buffs let me know. Im interested in blues and splash, not buff.

Yes, I'm fairly new to chickens. My daughter introduced me to them when she moved here and started raising chickens. Now that we've moved here, she convinced us that we needed our own. We got our six at the end of February of this year and they have just now begun to lay. They laid 4 eggs in the nest box this afternoon--yay! they laid them in the nestbox. Some have taken to laying them on the far right corner in the back....now that's a real pain, retrieving those eggs. And, the eggs are getting bigger every day, much to our delight.

So, yes....this chicken stuff is still all new to us....and to top it off, I broke my thigh bone last Friday night. Right now. I am sofa-bound (except for my exercises and little jaunts around the house with my walker. (My physical therapist comes tomorrow and we'll see just what he's going to let me do.)

I haven't been able to check on them for a week now...guess they'll have to get used to my dad (who lives with us) and my husband.

Hubby does think it's funny when they come running up to him and squat.

Sorry about your leg. Ouch! Hope you feel better soon

Soon you will be giving away eggs.... trust me you ewill run out of ideas for them all.

I am very new to chickens as well! and appreciate all the info!
I have 5 that or my first and are just about 5 months old and I am waiting for my first egg.
Then I Have 6 chicks in separate brooders, one group is sick and complicating everything!
Been treating them for Cocci and not sure if its working it's been 3 weeks on corid and still seeing signs of blood in some of the dropping
but now I dont even know what I am doing! I have a thread about it here... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1007621/coccidiosis-or-something-else-need-advice-photos
I did not see any blood in the poo photos posted. Maybe you were seeing shed intestinal lining ?
It is kinda redish.
Coccidiosis in young chickens usually is befor the ages of 3 months, and presents itself as BLOOD as if you slit your wrist !

RED RED RED blood, not kinda pinkish poop.

Do you have these chicks on MEDICATED chick feed ?
If so, they already have sufficient Amprolium to combat cocci.
You should be aware that you should never feed MEDICATED(Amprolium) chick starter AND Corid (Amprolium) in their water, as you can over medicate & make the chicks very ill/and/or dead.
What are their "ill" symptoms ?

Thanks!!!!! I actually took them off the meds. And they are fine. I think it was just the normal shedding of the intestinal lining. Poor guys got treated for nothing. Learning more each day.

YIPPEE !!
Yes, if you had cocci it is a massacre of blood, I had chicks get it once, when I started them on "grown up food" and it was as if I had slit my throat, blood everywhere, and started them back on medicated food & within a half a day they were fine.

Hope you do well & welcome !
