Ah! Your first broody & babies ???I have two beautiful tiny Barnevelder chicks that are thriving with their mamma hen. After breaking her broody about 7 times in 2 years she finally got to hatch some chicks. Momma is a blue wheaten ameraucana and she's a great mother. Nobody messes with her chicks -- except me.![]()
This particular line of Barnevelders has proven to be pretty good for autosexing, but there's always those few that can't quite decide. So we know we have one pullet for sure, her name is Gigi. Then there's Hope, her markings are not strikingly a boy's, but not totally a girl either. So... Hope she's a pullet.
We're have a grand time watching the interaction of momma and babies. It's a first for us, too.

It is particularly hard, when we have the wind, which dries out the seeded beds so fast !That's totally correct. Just seeded a few areas myself and I suck at remembering to water them!
BGMatt breeds Lanshans, I am not sure what colors he has, but he is involved with the clubI got a black langshan from someone locally and 100% fell in love with the breed. I'd like more, but preferably from a reputable breeder, and ideally blue, splash, or white. Anyone in the area breed these creatures?
I have not operated on her yet. What happened with your bird... I had a crop impacted young pullet once and had to aid in the removal... Time and patience. I then fed her gaterade and she healed... She is now a 22 week old Minorca... Small..... Because I think the impacted crop stunted her a bit but happy.
Post what breeds you are interested in finding here.Brand new chicken mama here! I have seven breeds I'd like to combine to start my flock, but all of the bigger hatcheries have minimum orders that are far too many chicks for this lady! Any suggestions??? I'm in puyallup
I have tried to get mail order on 1 species & hatch them, but was forewarned that they are hard to hatch, and they did not even develope (so I suspect they were not fertile to begin with)I have been on a mission for a few years now trying to get access to the three native Chilean birds, two of which are the parent species used to create araucanas. Anyone have any ideas? Importing them is out of the question...way too expensive to get through customs and quarentine.
What is above, is called a "Quote"I don't know how I just piggybacked someone else's post.
How long have you lived there ?My garden could have used another solid month of sunshine and warm temps. We only hit 80 once or twice last month. I was really hoping for some ripe tomatoes this year.
We spent some time out that way this summer. This is a pretty area. Let me know if the get away needs chickens, lol.
