Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Don't people teach manners anymore? I always hold the door open for anyone behind me. If someone looks like they need help with something I ask if I can help. My husband is the same way. He also has those old fashioned southern manners.

We were pulling into the Ivars and I saw an elderly lady sitting on the ground with a bit younger lady with her. Several people just walked by them ignoring them. I watched and saw them struggling to get the one up. After we parked I told Mike what I saw since he didnt while driving. I went and asked them if they needed any help and they seemed relieved. She had stumbled on the curb and fell. They had been trying to get her up for a bit. Mike actually picked her up since he's much stronger than me.

It made me mad that no one else even spoke to them.

-edited because I do say bad words and forgot not to here.

I have 5 kids and try to instill manners the best I can these days. On the south they have a bit more physical control on their kids still. My kids are pretty good, and you can guarentee us to help in town when we see the need! My kids may be punks to eachother, but for example, my daughter always befriends people who are at a physical or social dissadvantage.

Since breaking my femur, I have used a walker and now am on a cane especially when I go out.
When I do go out, people have been nice...I don't know if it's because my hubby goes with me everywhere or what.
I've only been on the "disabled" list for the past month and a half and have not had to be exposed to the crudeness that many of you have had to endure.

You are doing great !
And luckily healing quickly !
Be careful, too !
And be glad you are not in a wheel chair, 99% of the population cannot 'see' a person in a wheel chair, it is really strange.
IF DH cleared his throat loudly, all those people cutting in front of him in line turned & looked at him, seeing him for the first time it seems, as a human being rather than a piece of furniture they were sidestepping.

No,people don't teach their kids manners anymore. They leave that up to teachers, bus drivers, and eventually law enforcement.

When ever I see a teenager that looks like they could use some coaching, I will open a door for them and hold it. Some of them will say "Thanks", but most of them have their headphones on which they think precludes them from speaking (or listening).

They are teachable though. It does require the whole village since it isn't happening at home (most of the time).
