Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The deck is 12 feet deep, sits inches from the ground on one side and goes up to about 2 feet off the ground on the other end. Maybe a couple bales of hay where the distance is far off the ground? No water gets under because it's roofed.
It might be 3 feet at the highest end.
good idea, but watch for rats making a home in the hay...

Apparently I am put (once again) on restriction from getting any more chickens.
I do need a Bielefelder cockerel, and I have an extra Sulmtaler cockerel...

LOL. There are so many neat breeds we can raise up here, it's nearly impossible to stop myself. I have to for respect of feed and space, but one day I dream to have a great big building with stalls for each breed. I'd love to get into designer breeding, have people get combination birds or pure breed.

Yikes!

The egg that she laid 2 days later had no signs of this discoloration. Is it possible she was medicated at some point before we got her? She has been in an enclosed pen the entire time we've had her and all snacks have been "chicken approved" stuff. Should we avoid eating the eggs for a while then?
Hens can, from time to time lay eggs that what looks like small blood clots or bleeding in them, and are called 'egg meats'
The big egg farms candle to remove any of these eggs so consumers never see them, but we do.
There is nothing wrong with these eggs (providing they are not medication caused, and I do not know what meds would cause this) the egg simply has a clot from the hen straining to lay the egg.
The hen could have had stress since being moved, too.

FLAX! I've been making an oatmeal-flax-unsweetened shredded coconut mixture and mixing some of that with the extra hot water left over after making coffee and giving that to the birds in the AMs. I will make a point of cutting back on that!
wow, I am going to come eat at your house !
be of mind that even unsweetened, the natural sugars in some of those items, especially coconut, can cause birds to have diarrhea, too.

***Sigh!**** All our dreams, LOL!
And after 6 coops, I am on restriction.
And every year I choose 1 or 2 breeds & sell off others (to lighten the feed bill & work load) and every spring I go bonkers for more birds....
Somebody stop me !

Unfortunately I think I'm like a pusher...just this morning I told the neighbors that we're ready for them to get some chickens.

That is not a "pusher"
here on BYC we fondly call that an 'Enabler' and in most all cases we scurry to find what they asked for, who we know that has that or what we think they need and compile all that info & come back to show it to the person...in most cases having proof of someone who has what they want close by....or we help them by picking up/dropping off...birds/eggs/lambs/calves/kids (goaties...)LOL

We enable....LOL
