I'm so sorry to hear that! That should serve as a warning to those of us that know we have bears in the area. We need to really make sure our garbage and chicken feed is secure! It was not a good year for bears as far as food goes. They won't be going for our chickens as much as the feed but once in the coop they will eat chickens! I know our neighbor has had a bear on his property recently and he's only a mile from us!So bummed!A bear came sometime in the night, broke off the door to one of our smaller coops that housed my silkies and got 3 out of the 4.![]()

Thanks everyone. Yes the bear has attacked before, during the summer. Now I really need my little Silkie eggs in the incubator to hatch! It'll be day 7 tomorrow but I found 2 more eggs in the coop. Anyone ever do a staggered hatch? I only have one incubator but am considering putting these 2 eggs in too. When the existing eggs go into lockdown will the high humidity hurt these last 2?
I have not done a staggered hatch but I think you could do it. There is a hatch along thread that started a couple of days ago that should be able to help. It's called incubating w/friends. I would put them in. I think that a few days of high humidity can be compensated for later on.
Thank you Saris. I'll go check out that thread. I'll probably put them in and hope for the best.
