Single comb chickens in winter - do I need a heat lamp in the coop? I live on Camano Island. I think our average overnight low in January low is 34, but of course it can get much colder sometimes. How cold can they tolerate without developing frostbite?

Bantam Fowl are not necessarily any louder than large fowl, it is the breed and blood line you look at

Handwarmers are good for chicks if you loose power. I've used them to transport chicks the several hours from a show.

So far, the strongest gust has been 97.2mph. Sustained winds of 60.

Ours here was sustained at 40, gusts mostly to 70, occasional gust to 90......kick butt hurricane !

Making the drive back with hubby so he doesn't have to do the two days alone like when he drove down. He'll pick me up at the airport and we'll start the drive the next morning. Hopefully he doesn't have too much stuff that he's bought while down there. There is only so much room in the bed after the toolbox gets forklifted in.

It looks like the trip will be sooner rather than later. We're still working on the assumption he'd coming home to be laid off, though.

The pullets are in a wading pool in the pumphouse it was our german shepard, I have them all much better protected now
have not lost one since saint preserve us
