Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Google the plastic bowl I have never heard of it, if it safe foe newborn puppies
you could use it on pullets under a towel covered in shavings I bet. JMHO

Here it is. I've had one for quite a while, it does stay warm for a long time. I figured it would be enough to get them through the night.

Well since I'm posting here I didn't make the WFF Monroe poultry show today.

We've made it to Medford and will thankfully be home this afternoon. Hubby is glad to be out of California

I have someone from Monroe wanting to know if I wanted to sell my eggs at a
farm stand she is setting up. Her name is Casey and I explained I was way to far away
like duh, so anyone who might be interested in selling your eggs that way can pm me
and I will give them the phone number.

Hi everyone!  New Washingtonian with chicks here!  I'm in S. Seattle/Skyway/N.Renton area, and I just got 6 chicks from the Issaquah Grange.  It is lovely feed store and the chicks I got seem super-healthy and happy.  I'd love to connect with anyone else local.  I'm using an always on heating pad as my heat source, but then my chicks are in my spare bathroom. Thankfully, we have one of those that can be dedicated to chicks!

Welcome to the club! I live about 15-20 mins from Issaquah and was just at the Grange the other day... and well, couldn't resist so got a few babies too. What did you get?

OMG! I just went to put the dog out and we ran into a gigantic possum. I am freaking! My heart is pounding, I have never seen a possum that big. I was planning on putting my chicks out in the coop but that ain't Flippin happening. I know all you farm people are laughing at me right now and I don't blame you but that thing was really big and I know it wants my chickens. So now I'm going to read up on possums here on this for him , I can tell I'm not going to get any sleep tonight.
I'm going tomorrow to get the supplies to build the new coop, I think my plans just changed! Right now my older chickens are outside in one of those prefab coops and also in a prefab run. The ones in the run are locked into a dog crate every night. But the others aren't. What should I do? Should I get a dog crate to put the others into until the new coop his boat? Will they be OK tonight? I know I am overreacting and freaking out but I would be devastated if that &$@$&&@& possum got my chickens. Oh sorry for the cussing. Are possum as good as raccoons when it comes to managing latches and hooks and enclosures? I could move all the chickens into the garage tonight. Oh man please help.

I feel for you. I moved all mine into basement briefly while I reconfigured housing. I had set a rat trap, caught one, then something ate almost the whole dead rat while still in the trap. Cat/raccoon/opossum? Gross and scary.

I have deterred opossums that had invaded chimney box by putting ammonia-soaked t-shirt into the space. They left pronto. Closed up space. You could try something like that if you find where it's living.

I don't know where it's living but I could do the ammonia soaked rag in a container near the coop. I went ahead and put my other two chickens into a dog crate. Then put the crate into the pin where the other chickens are also in a dog crate. Then reinforced the pen as much as I could.
I am definitely going to make a little stronger coop than I had planned. And the run will definitely be more than I had planned. I have six-foot fences and there are no raccoons around so the possum tonight surprised me, and freaked me out. I'm a little embarrassed how much it actually did freak me out, it took a while for my heart to quit pounding so hard. I was scared but also mad, nobody including a possum will be allowed to hurt my animals.
