I chop open the big squash with a square shovel, and set each half in a pen...and the birds chow down until all that is left is a rind so thin that it is practically see-throughI presume you feed the seeds whole? I always wondered if they would better use the seeds pre-crushed or ground and I blended them before. Their gizzard is a pretty amazing organ and I should just trust they can get the nutrients out of the whole seed.
There was a few Japanese in the bantam line, yes, but there were many many types of bantams in that line, not just JapaneseThanks for all the show photos. Lots of chickens! It looks like the Japanese Bantams were the most common little birds? Which seemed to be the most common large ones?
I have not seen or heard from @Hinotori in a long time, kinda concerned, maybe we should give her a call ?Thanks @Chickielady
Regarding the depluming mites, I haven't seen a lot of preening or feather pecking so I'm not really sure if it's the issue on my girl or not. But seeing a band of skin on her neck that's nearly without feathers, just some stubs, seems very odd. Her bum has a big bare spot too below the fluff, but it's not visible unless I pick her up for an exam. Last week she layed her egg outside in the pen, and today she dropped one from the perch in the wee hours of the morning. Neither of these behaviors has ever happened with HER before. It could be a molt progressing slowly as she is 17 months old now and never had an adult molt. Fingers crossed. I don't want a hen with an oviduct issue. I hate those. Ideas?
By the way, I saw @elizmartin in your show pictures. I missed going to this one so seeing the pics was nice. Did @Hinotori make it?
you need sheep ! And so great you have a home !!Hello again everyone! I am -finally- officially a home owner! Still moving in but when we are done we are going to work on getting set up for next year. Chickens, goats, the sky is the limit! Well, there may be a limit before then but I will figure that out. Any pierce county peeps I could potentially borrow some goats from to mow my backyard for a day or two?
I only was there a short while and didnt see anyone.
To much stuff going on. Hubby is going back to CA for work again.
Next time hollar !I had not made myself known nor asked for anyone, I though I had seen Gena but at her car
