Jess, sounds like you do everything possible to keep your birds healthy so I'm sure you have kept up with this already but in case you haven't thought about it sometimes birds with lice, mites and or worms react that way also.

Also wanted to mention to all about worming. Quite a few have been using Eprinex. It's great because there is no egg withdrawal and it also takes care of lice. I remember reading in the BYC forum (a while back so I can't remember where) from the chicken EXPERTS that Eprinex only treats lice, not mites and only a few types of worms. So if you have mites you probably want to keep an eye on it and treat with a dust also. The best broad spectrum wormer is Valbazen. Pretty much takes care of all internal parasites. Might be worth checking into. I'm pretty sure you are not supposed to eat the eggs from birds medicated with it for a few weeks.

I brought my son with me to "help" pick them out, but he ended up passing out in the car (we all got up almost 2 hours early this morning, ugh) and woke up cranky, thankfully after the chicks were packed and ready to go. So I was worried that he wouldn't like them when we got home (and he was in a foul mood, too), but after I opened the box he made happy noises and reached in the box. Progress! He's afraid of adult chickens (even silkies) so part of why I wanted these was to build his confidence as they grow. The other part is that they are just so darn cute! Hopefully my husband will come around as well. He's got a bias against silkies since he remembers his grandmother's birds as being, well, as dumb as rocks. I haven't heard of silkies as a breed having that problem, so I'm crossing my fingers these will change his opinion.

Ok, off to the garage to do a last check on the new chicks! I'll take a pic to post. I've got a couple of the big coop, too.

Yeah, and amazingly enough Jen showed up while I was out there helping and learning the ropes of getting ready for a show! Small world! I hope most of those are girls for you. ANd if you can keep a boy, they do just fine in a small cage in the garage until later in the morning. I find silkies are much better at being kept inside or in a cage that my LF. They protest a lot! Have fun with them, and I will have a list of a few things you should aquire over the next month or two to keep on hand for them. Will give it to you at the show.

It's sounding more and more like you're never gonna live this one down CR. Lol

CR recommends pastries for my contribution, so I feel inclined to make something like oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I can make them GF and egg-free so that everyone (hopefully) can have them if they'd like. If anyone has any objections, please say so and I'll come up with something else.

Only because I like them how ever keep in mind I think others are bringing cookies too!

If my sick bird seems to have perked up overnight and is wandering around the kitchen happily eating the rest of my kids' breakfast off the floor, when should I put her back with her flock? They're confined, so I don't want them picking on her, but she seems much happier today. They're all on Corid now. I'm going to clean out the coop and deworm them too (Eprinex since that's what I have) and make sure to powder the coop down with Sevin and DE. Last week when I thought one of the birds had mites I may have been wrong so I didn't treat them yet. So now there's too options of why they're sad; *possible* mites, or Cocci. If they're on Corid, can I also use Eprinex? Or is that too much for their bodies to handle?
