Another hatchaholic is thus born !
well kinda but not really took a partial dry run on it turned
and ordered 2362E - Electronic Thermostat Hova-Bator

Kinda foggy and cool here also my new incubator is keeping a constant 38c how do I gauge
humidity? this is my dry run
The BEST thing to EVER do with ANY incubator set up is to BUY a "wet bulb thermometer/hydrometer" which is dead on 100% accurate.
Once you have it running for a few days at the wanted temp & humidity, you can tighten the wing nuts on your wafer & remove the wet bulb therm.
The wet bulb can be done also with any old stem thermometer (like a meat one)
Calibrate your meat therm in a glass of warm water (not hot !) with a human oral (or rectal) thermometer...turn the nut on the back of the stem (meat) thermometer until it matches the oral (or rectal) therm.
THEN, you attach it however in your incubator, with a wet bulb sock which hangs in a water dish.
I use a small plastic rubbermaid tub, stick the meat therm through the side 9so it is horizontal) and the sock is in the water below it.

Wet bulb readings can be found on line, or hollar at me & I can scan & upload my chart for you.
NO DIGITAL hydrometer system works worth a handful of sand.unless maybe you buy a $1K weather system...which does not fit in your incubator anyways.

Look here to see stick thermometer with wick attached...now remember the wick material for a foot or 2 is on a few dollars...so get the size you need to fit your stick thermometer into.
Every good cook has stick thermometers....

IF YOU HAVE A STYROFOAM INCUBATOR, YOU CAN POKE A HOLE (NOT WITH THE STICK THERMOMETER !) AND PUT THE STICK THERM THROUGH, ATTACH THE SOCK, AND HANG SOCK IN A WATER SOURCE, TRAY OR SMALL TUB...KEEP IT WET !

As water minerals add up, the wet bulb will be off, so use it a few days to establish your heat & humidity, then remove it or wash it with vinegar & reattach.

This one was made using cloth instead of wick material:

I heard of people using sneaker show laces as wicking, also, as they are 'hollow' and the stem can fit right inside, cut off the ends.

This one is cool, but in the UK of course:

this is the Brinsnea, so far as I can see, it is only in the UK also:

But you get the basic idea here !

HERE IS THE gQf PDF WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS TO USE A WET BULB AND THE CHART ON HOW TO READ IT.
bOOK MARK THE CHART OR PRINT IT OUT & STAPLE IT TO THE WALL OVER YOUR INCUBATOR (i did) :

I just wanted to tell this group how much I've appreciated their advice, humor and information that I've received here. I have not been a steady contributor here, being a first-time chicken mama, but I have read and occasionally asked questions. I know that Mabel, Mattie, Sunny, Ruby, Scarlett, and Dottie would want to thank you, also.

I did want to tell you that come September 1, we will be relocating down to Forest Grove, Oregon. Our son-in-law is being transferred with his job and will soon be working out of the Hillsboro campus of Intel. My beautiful girls will be making the trip with us, but instead of living with my husband and I, they will go out to our daughter's new home in the country and join her 9. Our new house just does NOT have room for 6 hens and 2 dogs.

I just want to let you know how thankful I am to have found this group and allowed to be a part of it.

I wish you all the very best.
