Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was digging the moat deeper around the quarantine pen off and on all day. Couldn't keep ahead of the torrent. Wet near the door but the deep litter is holding up to the four new pullets. They won't use the roost yet but stay huddled together in the litter.

The two pullets I got at the show from Jean. Phoebe and Edith. Staying dry in the quarantine coop in deep litter.

Judy and Janet won't roost on their own even though Phoebe and Edith are merciless in pecking them. I put them up there but they didn't like it. Judy has no tail. Pin feathers coming in though. They get to eat after the two buff girls eat first. Everybody gets groceries. This coop is my old seedling shed turned dove house turned quarantine coop.

All seems dry so far. My barn roof sprang some leaks so it's kind of musical in there with the pitter patter of rain drips in the buckets. The Grey Silkies I bought from Margorie B. are snug and dry in their upstairs condo with light and window.

The 3 1/2 month old Grey Silkie male and female hiding behind.

My breeding pens are double decker and always stay cozy. LF live downstairs, Bantams upstairs. We built the barn out of salvaged boards and windows. It's not much to look at but it has held up for a quarter century already.

My old barn was built 26 years ago with twelve breeding pens. I have six usable pens now but only use two.

The LF pen on the bottom has nests boxes I made with a couple old cabinets. The drawers pull out. I nailed a couple cedar shakes on top to discourage roosting. The faux eggs await young hens.
My Production RIR roo Johnny is free range during the day and sleeps in a blacked out downstairs pen under the Grey Silkies every night. Their peeping confuses him. Hah!

Nikkii99 Those little ducks are CALL ducks and talk about LOUD !!!!

OK so we had a fun day here today. I set 26 eggs yesterday. Today we lost power at 11 am. So no big deal I go out and start the little generator. Well seems that the cheap little gen think I have got my money worth and it would only run 1 light bulb in the house. By 3 I had decided I better make other plans for the night so I went to a shop where I knew there was a 5KW gen not being used. I also know the guy won't miss it until summer. I will just "store" it at my house until summer. So I got home and hooked up cords for lights, bator, TV etc. but then decided I better go to Home Depot for the plug that would allow me to hard wire into the house. DO NOT DO THAT unless you know the right way. You risk killing the guys working on the power lines. Well of course by the time we got back with the plug. Our power was back on. Came on about 8.
For those interested. Update on the eye. Not good. It is not getting better and vision is a bit blurry. I have an appointment at 8 am. The lady says oh yes you will need a driver. I told her I don't have one and the dilated eyes can't be much worse than right now. Besides I AM USE TO DRIVING BY BRAILLE lol

Your grey Silkie is really a Porcelain Silkie. She looks just like my Silkie, that I bought from Margie last year. I still think that Margie has the prettiest Porcelain Silkies I have yet to see. If the Silkie had been a flat grey, then for some unknown reason it would be called a blue. I will say that I have never understood why that is so. I may just have to Google the question, and find out the answer.

I raked almost 50lbs of fir needles off my tarp over my coop. Stupid wind and rain. I can't wait to get started on my pallet coop for the birds. Couple more weeks of pallet colection and then I can start.
So to those of you that are also using tarps over your runs and coops, do you find that water condenses and drips from underneath? I have alot of that going on in my silkie pen. Thinking of getting something else to cover it. But not sure what.
Any ideas? Anyone?

The pvc and heavy duty tarp held up great. Just made a bowl of water that sat above the doghouse the silkies use. It was a LOT of water. We knew the wind knocks that one down and had bought the needed parts to add in two more ribs, just hadn't gotten it done. It's good now. The water weight kept the wind from blowing the tarp around and I think the silkies actually liked it better that way. lol

The quarantine run has the same type of roof, but with the 6 ribs going across. It has no issues.

I haven't had any water dripping on the inside of my tarps. They are the nice heavy ones from Costco. The pvc frames mound up and over and work pretty well if you do it right. It peeks at 7.5-8 ft tall since it's on a 6 foot kennel panel. I did the silkie one first and we found out really quick it didn't have enough support, just hadn't gotten to fixing it. The rain normally only gets about the first foot inside wet on the wind side. I have straw down in there and the birds stay nice and dry, except for the one silkie who will soak just her head. I still think she does it on purpose so she can see.

OH ok I"m good with that. Nobody is "looking" at the PMs then, but the software for the website filters language. That I can handle. I don't like foul language anyway

And I'm back online with a real computer. DH got one up and running. I'm downloading a ton of updates, but it works!

Hey all. I posted this last night, but I don't think anyone saw it since this thread moves so fast. I unfortunately was unable to make it to the show this weekend. I was wondering what bird/gender/and who owns it won Champion Feather leg and Reserve. Thanks!

It must have been the LF Cochin, but I don't which one for sure. It was too hard to hear the announcement. I will check and see if the WFF web site has the info.
