Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I never answered where I was able to find my Scotties. Scotty is from Gresham OR, His mommy breeds and shows Scotties, and his dame is a beautiful strawberry wheaton, dark blond with a reddish twinge. Bailey hails from Huntsville Utah, his mommy raises Scotties for both show and pets. Both breeders were found through petfinder.com. And before anyone climbs a soapbox, I did do my due diligence and vetted them to make sure they were good dog folks and not doing it for the $$$.

Oh man, I wanted to jump up on a soapbox today :-( i've owned two dogs in my life, the first one I had for 17 years, cocker spaniel sheltie cross. Got her from the pound. The second one I had for 15 years, Springer lab cross, got her from an ad in the newspaper. The next dog I'm going to get is a German Shepherd guide dog. From a school in Mississippi. Their primary breed that they use is actually Dobermans. But Dobermans aren't my style. I love German shepherds.

I'm glad that you cared about the welfare of the puppies that you had produced. So many people don't. And not just purebred puppy breeders but all the backyard breeders that will breed anything to anything then sell it for hundreds of dollars. I spent $60 for my first dog from the pound and $30 for my second one from an ad in the paper. The idea of spending three or $400 for some but somebody bread in their backyard is beyond me. They don't pay any attention to The quality of the parents etc. my second dog had hip dysplasia. She did have great temperament at least. She was a good dog. I know those people bread at least three litters and if I could get a hold of them I would've told them to not breed anymore. My dog still had a good life but it could've been better.
I worked one summer at the Humane Society. It was terrible. I think all these people breeding dogs in their backyard to make a quick buck needs to go work at a kill shelter for a month or two. Make them see what overpopulation does to the animals. Our local Humane Society is a no kill shelter, don't get me started on that one, and it is full of pit bulls and Chihuahua's. nothing against those two breeds but because they are very popular everybody and their uncle is breeding them. I had a dog trainer friend who used to say the worst thing that could happen to a breed is for it to become popular.

My Athena came from a backyard breeder as an accidental pregnancy, but they took precautions to prevent that happening again. She's just an american pet line GSD, so no sloped back. They took care of the puppies and provided first shots. I paid $250 for her.

Zeus is from a high kill shelter. He's aussie x heeler. I paid $150 for him then another hundred to cure the kennel cough that he just couldn't get over.

Then Zeus broke his leg at the growth plate and we spent a $1000 getting him healed up and saving what we could of leg growth.

So cost has nothing to do with how we treat our dogs here. If they need it, they get it.

What irks me is the 'friend' who was breeding AKC border collies. She was in it for the money only. She bred her females five or six times each and the male had hip dysplasia. You can bet she never told anyone who bought the puppies.

I have fought those back yard pups all my life cried over hip dysplasia, retinal
atrophy and epilepsy being passed and animals being put down at three or 4
blind or in so much pain
