Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hey all!! New here!! We are looking to begin our backyard chicken life!! We live in Oak Harbor. Where's the best place to find young chickens? To adopt, for sale, free?
I've been around to a lot of places to check out chicks, the monroa co-op gets 1,000 chicks a week with over 30 breeds. they have decent prices, so much so that I drive up all the way from shoreline. best selection and prices i've found. you'll want to call ahead to see what they have but I believe they get their new arrivals ever thursday and friday.

Second Monroe, we drove to them from skagit to get my Brabanters!

Can't hardly believe that all my ladies layed an egg today! It's been forever since I had all FOUR of them laying at the same time. :lau

At one point 3 of them were in the same nest box at the same time, and we're talking LF not bantams! Hehehe

Escapee caught in the act

I had BF favorite meet me at the outer door to the old run as
she spent the night out.... seems that the d**m white dog as I now call her each time we block her
she finds a new way in playing tag with the birds half my birds have no tail feathers
now I have birds taken flight on three sides of their new run

See, I'm glad that my dogs are totally trustworthy with the chickens and actually protect them. I've locked them in the pen with the birds, and the worst thing that happened was they ate chicken poop. The second worst thing was they ate all the chicken food.

I have a new net for that pen. The snow broke the old one down during winter. At which point I found out there was a lot of dry rot in it. The net is to keep the chickens in as much as other pests out

It must have been a good egg laying day. I got nine out of nine today. It is funny how they cram themselves all together. I made the nesting boxes a little bigger, 18 inches wide, and I often have three in one. But usually it's just one or two.

Me and my chickens were spoiled, my previous dog never bothered them. But now she is gone. The neighbors have a husky that I know would gladly eat all of my chickens if she could get in the yard. So I'm going to reinforce the bottom of the fence line. My chickens seem to think that dogs are nice. This could end up being dangerous for them.
My next dog will be a German Shepherd guide dog. I told the school that I do have chickens so hopefully the dog will get some exposure to them before I get it. But if not I will have to work at it. And I'm sure I will never be able to leave that dog out alone with the chickens.

8 new chicks! Last 7 eggs aren't doing anything. I'll leave another couple of days then call it. 8 from this shipment is actually more than I expected due to the air cells etc. Penny's 10 eggs are due on Easter- so, lock down for them is Thursday (TOMORROW!)! Then, I am going to be hatching some Mille Fleur Bantams fir the lady who owns the barn I just moved my horse too. Hopefully I don't totally fall in love with the itty bitties!!!

this chick is from a mystery Egg... she has no idea which hen it came from! It's smaller than the rest, so maybe a bantam? Time will tell!
