How many hens ? Do you sell eggs? I give mine to the Senior Center in Brewster. Usually about 5 dozen a week. My Marans hens have quit laying, again. TOM
Yes I sell them to make feed cost. So why are the Marans not laying are yours molting? I’m having a heck of a time getting you eggs I have some but one is broody it was one of the darkest layers another one that lays a dark egg every once in a while so three others that are laying sometimes it all went like this about a week after I put the rooster in with them he’s been in there for 5 weeks now he’s being nice to the hens and me. I have around 90 hens need to get rid of some slackers.

Mine are all getting old enough to lay all of them
added new from the auction even adults added will take time to adjust to new surroundings

I swapped roosters a week ago. I have 3 roosters I want to put over these six hens. They are my darkest layers. I'm going to up my protein to 21% All Flock. My pullets are molting and laying every other day. I will just set what ever we get on the 14th. Tom

Tom why do you have three are you worried about fertility or just want the variety
All three roosters have different qualities I like. Some I don't like. I want to see what they produce. # 1 rooster too much color in his breast will make better hens. More copper in the hackle feathers. #2 rooster bad comb but a real big guy! I have hens that will fix that. #3 rooster looks real good, do not know what he will produce. I am not looking for perfection, but "that which produces perfection!" Mostly dark eggs.

I’m alive still butchering Cornish x never ending job, I’m making it worse though as I’m cutting them up this year making smaller meal size packages. I don’t know what I was thinking last year freezing 7 to 12 pound chickens I could only eat a small part of it ended up eating chicken 3 days in a row plus noodles on the fourth day and still couldn’t eat it all.
