Not all Marans lay dark eggs. The first Marans I bought from a breeder grew out to have yellow legs, carnation combs! They layed a very Dark egg, but were not SOP birds. There are a lot of wrong birds being sold as Marans. Cost me time and money to find out. Buyer beware! If you do not breed your own birds, and breed back your own birds, how can you know what they Produce?? Tom

They look great Tom hope you get some nice birds out of them. The rooster stands on my foot every night to get his treats it’s nice to have one of those big Marans boys with that nice of temperment.

All my cock birds are mean! Just flat mean! They have good confirmation and good color, but they are mean! I am hoping a cross with your dark eggs will help. I believe it comes from too much inbreeding. I also want too see if the light eggs that I hatched from you will lay a lighter or dark egg?? Time and feed will tell. My last pullets hatch did not lay until 28 weeks.

Mine started to lay between 16 and 20 weeks. The other boy I got rid of was mean but not that mean I just wasn’t going to put up with it at all. I looked back at my records it was 20 weeks almost to the day for the first two eggs not 16.
