It's SO true about not being over until closing. In '98 I sold my house in Shoreline to such a nice, very excited young couple. The day before closing I got a call from an attorney, bad news, over the weekend the wife had been killed in a freak accident. They were hiking up at the ice caves, she and her father walked inside one, just a few feet, and the archway collapsed on them, killing her. Such a horrible loss. THEN, when I got home that evening I listened to my phone messages. There was a msg. from the escrow company from 9 a.m. that morning telling me to come in the following day to sign the final papers. (Obviously they hadn't heard the news when they left the message.)
Two lessons learned.... it's not over until the papers are signed, and pay attention to the warning signs and Don't Go Into Ice Caves.
