Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Lost one of my last two Welsummers today looks like a laying disorder. She was one of the first two chicks I ever hatched in an incubator, I grabbed two Welsummer eggs and put them in the new incubator and both hatched and were both pullets that was 3 years ago. I think I will order a few more of them this year.

Wow 7 or 8 years old, I wouldn’t lean on those girls either. They don’t make it that long around here 3 is about as old as they get. You have some lucky girls, I might keep a nice rooster longer but not paying feed bill for old folks home.
You guys crack me up. My husband is now trying to convince me we need budgies since we cant have more chickens in our yard...this is coming from the guy who hated hated hated any and all birds before we got our chicks. If he could he would have house chickens...

They are more pest control now than anything now. There are only 7 of them.

The silkies are what I've been breeding. We do eat extra boys and older hens.

That is because silkies aren't dumb and figure out really fast how to see better. Rub head against dew wet fencing. Stand in the rain. Dunk head under water for a few seconds. Dish water our of the water can and mix it with dirt then rub their head in it. I've had hens do all of them.

My Polish Frizzle is quite the opposite, she doesn’t like going out when it’s raining. But, She was sick last week and I had to cut her head feathers back because the ones in the front were getting stuck in her nostrils. All better now. A little Oregano oil in her water and she was as good as new.

We got our first 3 eggs since October yay... I’m guessing only from our Polish.

I was told that when we got 2 of of chickens that they were laying but because they were both molting that they had stopped. Can you tell how old a chicken is without someone telling you easily?
