Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OK guys...I caught a weird critter in my rat-sized hav-a-hart trap...caught on a piece of bread with pea nut butter on it....cute little dudette is about 4-5" long & about as fat around...small ears in deep thick soft fur...this dudette reminds me of a pika...has a tail about 4" long, smaller around than a rat's tail, flat teddy bear-like face...this is no rat !
What is it ???

I dumped it in a crawdad trap & took pictures through the hole in the end....

Her face was wet...and she was busy cleaning off....cute little booger !
I let her go...so, what is it ?
A lemming ?
Any ideas ?

Shrew?

The little white silkie is still going! There are 4 poops in the box, although the last two are kind of runny. I laid down extra paper towels until I can get them all changed out. It'll keep her from walking through them. She isn't eating a ton, but she is eating and drinking. I'm crossing my fingers she'll be doing even better in the morning.

And I'm not opening any snake cages tonight, lol.

Jennifer

Good to hear! I hope she continues to improve.

When my broody had a clutch of 6 eggs, 4 of them had gotten dumped from the nest. Not knowing why and wondering if she was a bad/inexperienced broody, I popped those eggs in the incubator and they all hatched within a few days. The two under her had also hatched at the same time so I snuck the incubator chicks underneath her when it got dark. She raised all 6 chicks together and was a fierce, protective, heroic Mom until they were about 6 weeks old and bought them a bus ticket to boarding school. (Okay that didn't really happen.)

Turned out she was an awesome broody and I was a bad human. The only reason the eggs had gotten dumped from the nest was because the nesting box I put in the broody pen for her was too lightweight and her weight tipped it over, spilling the eggs out. She wasn't able to get them back in over the lip of the box safely.

Good morning every one!
It is so pretty, frosty and COLD this morning. But at least the chickens water is not iced over, well the one in the coop.
Today I have to take #2 (#ed by age) DS to school at 10 For a re entery meeting because he got himself suspended Monday of last week. Guess that means that sleep was not the problem and we Will have to go back to the phiciatrist (sp?) To try something different. Boo.
Then I Will be heading over to Jennifer's House around 1 to pick up Tikka and a Fav boy she has. Man I hope the Fav boy turns out to look like FUDGE!

Boy, that was one delicious
panther! I wonder, if there are any more around
here?"

Hearing this, the young panther
halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror
comes over him and he slinks away into the
trees.

"Whew!," says the panther, "That
was close! That old Dobermann nearly had
me!"

Meanwhile, a squirrel who had
been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree,
figures he can put this knowledge to good use and
trade it for protection from the panther. So, off he
goes.

The squirrel soon catches up with
the panther, spills the beans and strikes a deal for
himself with the panther.

The young panther is
furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here,
squirrel, hop on my back and see what's going to
happen to that conniving canine!"

Now, the old
Dobermann sees the panther coming with the squirrel
on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do
now?," but instead of running, the dog sits down
with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't
seen them yet, and just when they get close enough
to hear, the old Doberman says .......

"Where's that squirrel? I sent
him off an hour ago to bring me another
panther!

Smart Dobie. Funny story.

Darn it, I forgot to check the chooks this morning early and just went out; their waterer was frozen solid and they weren't happy! I got bit 5 times while trying to break off the ice! Ugh

I neeeeeed to get a darned heated dish, or just clean out the coop and keep the food and water in there like others do. I still think it'll freeze though, it gets super cold here!

Need to go out and water the hoop-house Wyandottes first thing; I was late getting to them yesterday and they had enough water for the rest of the daylight but not enough for much past dawn this morning. Turning on their hose is a big deal, since it also fills the summer watering trough for the cattle, and so takes forever to drain again. I need to disconnedt the rest of those hoses and have somebody shut the orchard gates; when the mud settles a bit I'll start tying the sheep out in the orchard again, which may improve his mood.

On the other hand, nothing like a horned sheep in a huffy mood to increase one's speed and agility!

Sorry to hear you've been struggling with an auto immune disease. I know that can be really rough at times. I have an a.i disease as well, it's called Hashimotos.
You are not alone on this thread my friend!

That's a fairly rare disease. My brother and mom were diagnosed with that several years ago. No fun at all there. I lucked out on not getting much in the way of allergies or issues from mom.
