So can you tell me what you made them out of I would do it now

I did up cost and weighed them when cool. It weighed 4.5 pounds and cost $5.50 in ingredients. It's possible to get that cost down a little and there may be cheaper recipes out there. Comparison to an actual Flock Block which run around $13 and weighs 25 pounds.

4 cups scratch grains
2 cups layer feed
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup crushed egg shells or oystershell
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cayenne pepper
6 eggs
1 cup molasses
1 cup solid fat (ex. shortening)


Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Mix dry ingredients.

Beat eggs then mix in molasses.

Mix fat into dry ingredients, then add wet ingredients and mix well.

Fill loaf pans. Press tight and smooth. If you want to hang, poke a hole in it with a chopstick so you can thread it with twine later.

Bake at 325 degrees for 30 mins. It will turn a dark brown. Let fully before removing.



My ingredient tweak since chicks and roosters would be eating and I like more variety.

4 cups of scratch grains and birdseed mixed together
2 cups Flockraiser crumbles
2 cups rolled oats (I used a rolled 5 grain cereal with triticale, wheat, oats, barley, rye)
1 cup safflower seeds (chickens like and I got a sale it's usually expensive)
1/2 cup sunflower chips (to keep same volume I replaced the eggshell with this.
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cayenne pepper
6 eggs
1 cup molasses
1 cup solid fat (ex. shortening)

I lowered temp to 300° and baked 20 because I used the muffin pan. Then after checking them I turned off oven and left them in with the door cracked for about 15 minutes, then closed door and left them in overnight.

I keep some disposable gloves in the kitchen for things like cutting hot peppers. It also helped when mixing that up. Hands are the best way to do it and it sticks. Press it in the mold as firmly as you can. I sprayed the muffin pan with Pam as well to make sure it didn't stick.

I keep boxes of small in a cupboard in the kitchen, it is old pressboard, cheap
not a kitchen queen but kinda use it like one .. Few pieces I make due with
others real Mccoy all in all nice kitchen appointed ....
but am looking foward to trying this buy a few thinks make it right

I hate having to pick up the big flock blocks each night because of attracting rats. Two of these for the big girls and one for the silkies each pen.

Well and we make different sizes for the coops idiot that stole the roof account to his business suppose to be here if he does not show I will let his brother have the money this is A-1 and roof doctor I am getting real ticked about now he said he would come out 2 weeks ago still never showed up no call nothing now he is doing it again
