Hey Jenn, I will be at Marge Best's on Monday. I will ask and check out what she does. I will let you know. I am planning on putting a 2x4 on the 2" side at ground level in the coop for the silkies to "roost" on if they want.

You forgot the best: A Silver laced, and a Blue Laced....thanks for sharing !If anyone is interested, the Barnevelder thread just posted this link to the German Barnevelder 2012 report. It has 2 pretty interesting photos, a White and a Crele!
Link Here It's pretty long, so you'll need to scroll down.
You'd be surprised sometimes they come to a conclusion without fighting & blood, and never more is a challenge made.Sorry, gotta vent. This is a metaphor story;
So the "crazy" rooster came to visit with "protective" rooster's top hen. Things were going pleasant for about 3 minutes. When "protective"rooster(PR from now on) came in from checking on the other hens and chicks, things were getting loud between "crazy" rooster(CR from now on in this story) and PR's top hen. PR was making the top hen and chick food to eat and was staying out of the conversing going on. The CR started bawking real loud at the top hen, and she was bawking back. Top hen can defend herself pretty good, but PR was getting concerned she was going to be attacked. So PR tried to deescalate the situation and got bawked at by CR to stay out of it, in the PR hen house. It was all the PR could do not to attack the CR at that point, but top hen bawked real loud and got the CR to finally go to his bachelor pad. I think that PR and CR are going to have a cockfight if CR bawks "stay out of it" in PR's hen house again. And it wont be pretty.

Thanks, but the story was a metaphor of things that happened in my house tonight. I just needed to vent and used chicken terms in place of people.

Thank you!!! That would be wonderful.

I'm not sure how it will be sound proof and well ventilated enough. Unless you have an electric fan or something.Just thought I'd ask everyone's opinion on this- I'm getting 6 straight run chicks in January (SQ). Anyways, where I live, I can have as many chickens as I want, as long as the neighbor's don't complain. There is a noise ordinace but it doesn't specify no roo's. With the chicks, since they are such high quality, I'm going to want to breed/show them. But the noise ordinace. So, to solve the problem, me and my dad are building a soundproof coop for my Christmas present. What does everyone think? Will this be ok?
Vent away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks, but the story was a metaphor of things that happened in my house tonight. I just needed to vent and used chicken terms in place of people.
Hey I just happen to know 2 some bodies that will have a bunch of BCM hatching soon!!! like next week. One of said people I KNOW WOULD be interested in making a deal on a few. At young they will be SR. or if ya wanna wait you can get just pullets but of course they will cost a bit more.So I am getting ready to place an order for chicks with Meyer Hatchery. I am just trying to decide how to do it.
In order to get the lowest shipping charge possible with them I need to order 25 chicks which is only $21 and some change for shipping. If I order all the breeds I want now I wont get them until March and will only get 25 chicks. Or I can order 2 breeds now that I want, get 25 of them, then order the other 2 or 3 breeds that I want in Feb and get them in March. Would have to pay another $21 for shipping, would have to add in a few more cheaper breeds to make it to the 25 chicks with out having to pay over $200 for 25 chicks. The black and splash Marans are almost $10 each.
My two thoughts are I want them NOW, just because I am impatient and because I would like them to start laying in the summer. What do ya'll think?
I am leaning twords ordering at the two seperate times cause I would get more chicks that way.
