Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yay, the second chick hatched last night. So I have a Blue/Buff Orpington(SR) and a Blue Opr/BR pullet(no barring)

I will try and get a quick photo later today. They are so stinking cute and small. And one already pooed on me. Momma was ok with me handling them too.

Yippee!!! Congrats!!!

Quote: If I was in your shoes I'd let my roo live the way he is suppose to live without going to the extra expense of coop improvements.
Maybe leave him in the coo[p longer in the morning would help.

I'd get myself a good recorder.
Once those yappy dogs start yapping I'd record how long and time of day.
I'd do this for 3 days at least.
I know this be time consuming but I think it be worth it.

If you receive a complaint play the recording for the compliance officer.

Say OK I'll do something about lessening the noise from my roo but I expect the law to be applied through out the neighborhood then.
I wasn't going to file complaints because I believe in the constitution of the USA.
In other words we go to our neighbors in a civil manor and try to work something out.
Here is a copy of my tape you can play it for the one complaining and see if they want to with draw the complaint.

My guess is more than likely they have a dog and even if that dog isn't a yappy dog they could see they could be next if their dog starts barking.

BTW. Whomever made up that ordinance needs to go back to law school.
What a joke. You could say your neighbors lawn mower disturbs them. Or their kids. The Harley rider who has the loud pipes. Neighbors lawn mower. Weed trimmer.
List goes on and on. That ordinance is all about interpretation it has no teeth to it.

Sevin Dust or Eprinex?
Well, I'm almost out of Sevin to dust for the probable mites on my BSL. I don't much like dusting chickens so I'm thinking about switching to Eprinex. But I've never used it and don't know the pros and cons. It sounds like it's easier to apply and lasts longer than Sevin, is that true? What would y'all do?

Just thought I'd ask everyone's opinion on this- I'm getting 6 straight run chicks in January (SQ). Anyways, where I live, I can have as many chickens as I want, as long as the neighbor's don't complain. There is a noise ordinace but it doesn't specify no roo's. With the chicks, since they are such high quality, I'm going to want to breed/show them. But the noise ordinace. So, to solve the problem, me and my dad are building a soundproof coop for my Christmas present. What does everyone think? Will this be ok?

If you can handle your chickens without trouble, and can use a syringe without dropping it, Eprinex is the way to go. It takes a tiny, tiny amount for each bird, placed on the skin between the shoulders. If you've got someone who can HELP you with it, it's even better.

I need to treat the Hamburgs, but everything to do with that pen has got me barred from access to them: design problems ahoy! Add to that the fact that I reliably drop everything smaller than a coffee cup*, and... yeah, ain't happening right now.

*Not neuropathy, thanks be. Rather a driving need for a Thoracic adjustment to take pressure off the superior inferior bracial nerves, so my hands don't randomly open at bad moments. Doing that withough screwing up the ribs means I need an expensive pro. This also makes typing a real treat.
