Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Went out to put the girls away (they’ve been trying to sleep outside piled in a corner for the last week), and found all but one already in the coop and on the makeshift roost! Lovey (my white Cochin) was still hanging out in the run, but even she was by the door!

The dogs went out with me, mostly because they are still obsessed with getting into the run (which was the original reason I asked for the “foyer” to be fenced in). But we got to listen to one neighbor chew out another for lighting off fireworks in their backyard! Váli checked the perimeter thoroughly for any possible entrances while little Nugget hopped up and sat on my boobs to observe from above.

I just got fun news today. We hatched six chicks in April that were shipped from a Silver Laced Barnevelder breeder. One of them was a brown chipmunk instead of dark chipmunk like the others. He's been a bit odd looking the whole time. The others are super nice, but we kind of like the odd ball. We've been worried about how we would place a cross. Well, this week his coloration changed and got kind of smokey, I did some research and then emailed the breeder. She confirmed that he's a Blue barnevelder, which they also breed.

I don't have great pics... the enclosed run I'm using is great at keeping them safe, but all pics end up with the grid from that showing on the birds. Makes it hard to distinguish patterns. But here is what I do have. The wing is several weeks ago.

That's the goal, to breed silver laced barnevelders next year. I may splurge and get a few more chicks to make sure I have a rooster from a different line first, but I'm not sure. The blue won't be part of that breeding project, but one of the other two roosters is looking pretty good so far. And two of the hens have great complete lacing patterns. I'll wait until they mature before I decide next steps.

But we have cream legbars and mosaics in the incubator right now, and that will make a lot of chickens I need to figure out. The family is telling me we've got enough for this year already.

I have a mix but mostly EE or sexlink, My rooster is blue marans beautiful bird giving me ee the hatch I did have two all black birds those will be new olive layers
