Mom and Dad took over my deposit and did the buying agreement Monday. He's just under 7 weeks. Hubby wanted to keep with the Greek god theme so we decided on Hermes.

I called the vet today to make an appointment because I know all vets are busy and short staffed. They were happy I thought ahead and wasn't demanding an immediate appointment for an impulse purchase. So just a couple days after we get home from picking him up.

I'm still dragging. I did feel a bit better today. I don't do well with interrupted sleep. Last week I've been picking up silkie food at night and going out at dawn to put it down and deal with the ratinator.

Yesterday was nice and I got the pressure washer put together. Pressure washed the treadle feeders. Put a big magnet on the lid for counterweight. Now the lightest silkie can just open it. Rats cannot. The rats had been putting mud on the treadle to make it easier to open. No mud in the pens anymore. The dang rats would dig through straw to get the damp earth underneath.

So I finally got more than a few hours of sleep because I cannot get back to sleep once I'm fully awake.

Oh, this late spring is lingering until July 5, according to the forecasters. Still waiting to put out the basil. Deer have eaten anything it can reach, even columbines!
Yup, interrupted is so not good. This muggy, warm nights have me waking up because I get hot, then cold..Blanket on, then off, repeat.
And think I ended up with one SG roo, but he's not trying to crow yet, at almost 13 wks. Is this common? The lowest hen is henpecking him, for now. Not sure we can keep him. Close neighbors.

This might seem like a weird, ignorant question, but asking this group. What IS the reason for rinsing, boiling, roasting egg shells to be crushed and recycled by the chickens? Is this for human fear( everything has to be sanitized and clean) or something disease related? My thoughts are, chickens eat and play in their own litter, eat all kinds of who knows what when free ranging. How would ingesting their own eggshells hurt them? I just use the eggs, leave the remnant whites to dry, them crush them. Thoughts?

I just let them dry and crush them. Putting them in oven speeds it up.

My girls prefer eggshell to oystershell.

I agree do not have to sanitize but dry them good or like she said oven works faster ...
