Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

84 here a few minutes ago but it's cooling down. No air conditioner, so I'm leaving the windows open all night again, then close them up when the temp starts to rise tomorrow. I did that today and it got up to only 79 inside the house.

Supposed to be a major El Nino year, so it might be gettin' pretty hot this summer.

That could be great for our veggie gardens.

It’s beautiful this morning. I’m sitting with my chickens while they have their grass breakfast.

Yesterday I felt like I needed to just rest today, but that's not gonna happen. LOL

I opened up the backside of the coop to the run to give the chicks some freedom, Then I raked and scraped all the old poopy, dirty, dusty pine shaving bedding right out into the run, on top of the wood chips. Checked the food level in the feeder and there's still a day or two's worth. Dumped the old water, cleaned and refilled it fresh, cold water. Added new pine shaving to the coop.

Then I used my pitchfork to turn all the dirty pine shavings into the woodchips. Can barely see the shavings now, and they should start composting away. The woodchips were still composting when I threw them in the run, and they're still a little moist. I think they'll work out well for a deep bedding system.

After that, I came inside and cooked a few eggs for breakfast. It's already 82 degrees outside and it's not even 10:30!

Have a good day, and Happy Mother's Day!

We're at 91° at 10:30. Too hot for this side of the mountains.

Apparently I injured my feet stomping up clam sign yesterday. Can barely walk today. Need to find my flip flops. Those would make them feel better. I have an extra bit of bone on the top of both feet right under the nerve up top. Pressure causes issues. The extra bone started as bone spurs but is about the size of a nickel now. Wearing Birkenstocks for 30 years can do horrible things to your feet it seems. Wish the doctor who saw the spurs would have told me it was probably my footwear so it wouldn't have advanced this far. Podiatrist said change shoes when she saw the bone.
