Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We had to fortify a portion of fence line under the coop. Something dug in and got to the chicken food. Luckily, whatever it is, didn't attack the chickens. I'm thinking possum. Can they dig under fences? We have buried some cinder blocks there now. Will probably have to do the whole line under the coop. It's the only place they can get in to where the chickens are. The outside fence is fortified with hardware cloth, but I don't worry about it too much because they are only out there during the day and there is no access at night to the coop or run. Well, except the vulnerable spot this critter found. :barnie

Good Sunday afternoon everyone!

Well, we found out what has been getting in our chicken coop and eating the food. It was a possum. Little guy has been relocated to a remote area where he cannot bother anyone's chicken food. Also, we have fortified the vulnerable area. There was only one wall that didn't have underground cinder blocks to keep predators out. It was where the run and the coop meet. Not sure what we were thinking there. But it is fixed now. Blocks all around.

I guess it's because it was our original outside fending on that wall, which is not buried, but only encloses the free range area. Just didn't think about it. Have gotten away with it for two years! But one clever possum found the sweet spot.

That was nice of you to relocate that possum, but in case you don't know it's against WA game laws to relocate any problem animals like possums or coons, etc. I guess the state doesn't want animals move and be a problem elsewhere.

And I'm totally ok with you relocating it, but I just thought I'd bring it up in case you weren't aware.

You'd think the state should have more important things to worry about!

Sitting out enjoying happy hour with the ladies! Just added a new chicken yard cam:
