Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I am so sorry that you lost your two girls.
Also to Trav- I am sorry your girl was also attacked and hope she gets back to being healthy soon.

Hope everyone had a great New Years last night. This year was the first in 5 years that we have stayed up at all let alone all the way until 12am for the ball drop. Well we did not see the ball drop, we let the kids stay up and watch movies until the ball dropped so they could see that. But DH, BIL, his DW and I all went out into what was DH's office (a few months ago when he owned his own company) cranked up the heater, had a FEW drinks (we never drink) and played the funnest, gut bustingly funny ADULT ONLY card game. It was so fun we played for 5 1/2 hours! I can't wait to play that again. We all had so much fun.

The People's Right To Know Genetically Engineered Food Act

I-522 is an initiative to the Washington State legislature to establish mandatory labeling of foods produced through genetic engineering.
I-522 is filed and individuals and organizations are gathering signatures across the state. Our numbers are growing every day and people from all walks of life are working together to advance food labeling. There are many ways you can support I-522. Every little tweet and every dollar helps.

Over 330,000 signatures! Thank you everyone that has gathered signatures, donated, and helped spread the word. We created a lot of awareness in our state and beyond in 2012!

We will be turning in the petitions to the Secretary of State at 1pm January 3rd at 520 Union Ave SE Olympia 98501

A special invite is extended to the awesome volunteers that helped make this possible. We are having a meet and greet in the morning in Olympia. Please respond back to this email for details and directions if you'd like to join us.

Next week we will be responding to all other inquiries as we are currently working on preparing about twenty thousand sheets of paper for the big turn in.

Was it Cards Against Humanity?

I had to laugh so hard at my girls today. I heard someone cutting wood in an area that no one should be cutting wood so I wandered out to the back woods and over to the neighbors woods to check it out. I hollered out is anyone cutting wood real loud and it was dead silence all of a sudden. I see a body running out of the woods about 5 ac away. I turn around and my chickens had followed me way out there in the deep woods. Such an adventure for them crawling around the ferns and huckleberries. I will have to remember they follow me now when outside like a puppy. Only my Old RIR stayed home. It made me smile. Worth every penny I put into those babies. I really enjoy my Easter Egger girls.

I'm just checking in.

DH has been home now for nearly three weeks. I am almost ready for him to go back to work again. He will fly out this coming Monday. After 15 years on the fly, I think that this has been the second longest stretch with DH at home. The longest was when I had back surgery in 2005. I am finding that I am looking forward to having the house to myself again. Although I will miss all the help DH gives me with all the critters around here.

Peep, my temporary house chicken

So glad she is hanging in there. This past summer we got three ducks for slug control - and totally got rid if the nasty things in our flower beds. Anyhow, The drake is a huge Rouen-Blue Swedish cross. We had lost two ducks and a chicken to the neighbor's dog. Now she doesn't come near our proporty

Do they eat plants also?
Haven't done my home work yet on them.

Slugs is my biggest problem after deer which after I get my fence in won't be a problem after that as I notice they go to the next house that doesn't have a fence even though they can jump them they don't if neighbors yard is easy.
This coming season I'm ramping up production and really would like to have less things like slugs to worry about.
Was thinking about making a pond and housing in the fenced area.
