Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

5 hens, couple of them getting real old, no eggs

(no extra light)
had to buy eggs from the store
couldn't believe how light my various batters are - pancakes to cakes, so pale!

The four hens I got at the WFF Winter Brisk show have yet to start laying. I think they are seven months or eight months old. My roo has begun mating one of them in the last two weeks so maybe eggs soon? Three of the four have nice red combs now.
I don't heat the barn or use supplemental lights.

4 hens(2 in their first year, 2 in their second year)
I'm getting about a dozen a week. Way more than I need, gave away a dozen today.

Sorry for those of you who are sick. I was sick for most of the month of November. Not the Flu, just a variety of different viruses. I finally ended up in the Drs office at the end of the month. He said the best thing was cool humidity, and told me to crack the windows.

Russ- it is not too late to get vaccinated against the Flu.

On the subject of illnesses: I think I got the mildest version ever of a horrible cold that my mom and fiancee had. I'd just gotten over a different cold, so I had a slightly-worsened cough, a bit of sneezing and a minorly-runny nose. I got the flu vaccine before the season kicked in because I'm diabetic.

On the subject of eggs/day: I'm getting 3-4 eggs each day from four layers (this year's birds), or two if it's a bad day. Two of the Belgians are just starting to lay again, but I've only gotten four eggs in about a week (two pairs about five days apart). One of my Wyandottes will be laying soon, so that'll be nice.
