Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I can't wait to reseed my back yard. We're going to have to do it in spring. Gonna have to build fencing or something and do it in stages. The 8 littles - man, 8 little birds in a tractor can make bare patches in 1 day! Unbelievable. My sets of 3 and 4 never did that much damage so quickly.

Yes.  Actually I can since my son documented them so well.  They were both PRIR.  And, if you care to know, one was 58g and one was 59g.  TMI, huh?  LOL!  We even took photos of the cracks when they were being candled, so as soon as DH downloads that camera, I can post those.

BTW - I'm assuming RIR is Rhode Island Red, but what does the P stand for?  Am I guessing these correclty?  BO - Buff Orpington, GSL - Golden Sex Link?????

Glad to hear you are feeling better!

The "P" stands for production. Meaning, most RIR's now days aren't true, Heritage RIR's. PRIR's are what you get from feed stores. They aren't really RIR's.

OK... got on here to post one little post, then I got sidetracked with all the chatter.

Quoted from the flyer:
I haven't been to a Nutrena workshop, but I have been to a Purina one, and the coupons were worth my time.

So.... one of my hens had what looked like a poop glob on her butt... It was hard/dried and about the size of a small grape. Right or wrong, I had her in my hands(doesn't happen often) so I pulled it off... Got a few feathers with it, but you can't tell unless you catch her and turn her over.... My concern is what could be the cause? And is there something I need to do different?

I am in the process of worming everyone now, as I had a confirmed sighting of lrg round worms. I am worming them with valbazen.... I don't know if this is relavent or not though....

P.s. good morning all and happy Monday, had fun this weekend... Will post more when I get the computer on wifi and am not having to use my phone ;-)
I have 2 that have "sticky" bottoms. Their feathers just don't seem to let the poo slide down. I trim the feathers around the vent are to help minimize this.

Quote: HHMMFF, I wonder why they are the ones that have the cracked shells? This was the egg from my last setting too. Gonna have to check mine before I set them tonight. May be a genetic flaw
Quote: x2. All hatchery RIR are Production Reds(usually a mix if RIR and New Hamphshire's long ago. Gives them the laying vigor gene) True Heritage RIR's are usually very docile, where PRIR's can be down right mean(one of mine is in isolation for it and it is not looking good for her)
