So I will know for next year if the Bothell Feed store does this every year what was the price for layer pellets?

Hi. I can't tell for sure boys from girls. I mainly just wanted to tell you that I followed your posts from the egg hatching days until now so wanted to commend you on a job well done. They are wonderful! ~Dee~I'm very far behind on posts, and I can't wait until I can have time to catch up with all of you.
TWO BCMs have pipped!!!!! One day early. Good grief - I went into lockdown yesterday! Whew! That was cutting it close.![]()
The eggs should hatch tomorrow... which means I could potentially have 12 more babies to brood. That said, yesterday, DH told me I really need to figure out who's staying and who's going from my first hatch. I still don't see any pointed feathers, so I'm very confused about who's a boy and who's a girl. Can any give me a definite in any of these pictures? Please!
BTW... look how big they are compared to my "big girl" Caunnie. The chicks will be 8 weeks tomorrow. Caunnie is 8 months old.
Here's Blackie...
Here's Latte...
Here's the "twins", Cocoa and Rocha... (Rocha on the left, Cocoa on the right)
Here's Cocoa...
Here's Rocha...
Who are boys? Who are girls? I don't want to mess up and accidentally take a pullet to auction.
THANKS!!!!!
Farmin Mama said they do it now and in the Spring every year. Layer Crunble was 15.99.So I will know for next year if the Bothell Feed store does this every year what was the price for layer pellets?
Wow! Those are incredible pics. ~Dee~Day 21 with the Sheryl Butler Silkie eggs I picked up at the Winter Brisk show and we have life! First little one to pop is strong, healthy, and has all the Silkie traits. Five more pipped and are slowly working on the unzipping.
The two Grey Silkie youngsters I got from Marg Best are thriving and I love love love them. She is indeed a very nice lady.
These new little chicks will fill out my pens.
First to unzip.
Hello baby. Welcome to the world.
Oh no! That would be disturbing. But hey, chickens do love to eat meat. Sorry the Pine Siskin got in their path. They are so darn cute. ~Dee~I saw the end of a very grim edition of this-treasure's-mine-you-can't-have-it when I drove up just a few minutes ago. I didn't see what it was that they were so into having for themselves, but when I entered the pen I found Pine Siskin feathers scattered liberally around. What lovely creatures chickens are, yeah?
Huh. Maybe they would take it if I bought Flock raiser. It's at least Purina.Layer Pellets were $16. I paid full price for 3 bags, then half price for 3 more bags. Total: $48 + $24 = $72 plus tax.....
THEN I asked if they'd take my Purina coupons...$25 in coupons for Purina food, and I didn't even buy Purina! So I ended up spending $54 total for 6 bags of feed!! Yeah...that totally rocks my world at $9/bag, and I saved $42.
They all fit nicely in my deep freezer for the winter/spring. I will be experimenting with the next bag of feed to see how long it takes them to get all the way through it. I'm really nervous theyr'e eating me out of house and home. Good thing I find good deals on feed.

Guess it's a good thing we have eggs hatching then, huh?
Still a bit bummed. I have actually become very attached to Cocoa and Rocha - they are going to be difficult to give up. They are fun to watch. Latte is so meek and shy, I tend not to watch her as much as I watch Cocoa and Rocha. I will be very happy if Latte is a girl, though. I'd really like to keep someone out of our first hatch. Blackie, like Latte, has become meeker and shyer than he was when he was tiny. Blackie and Latte snuggle together - it's pretty cute. Blackie is flighty - he's difficult to catch. He has made the evening chick chase to put them back in the brooder in the garage quite the game. I've even had to utilize Caunnie's herding instinct to catch him once. Without Caunnie, I'm not sure I would have caught him that evening. Blackie was flying all over the yard. Caunnie got him to fly into a corner where he was trapped between her and me. LOL!
I am happy to finally have an integration plan. Drama is very good with the chicks when they are out free-ranging (supervised) in the yard. Caunnie chases them and Rhodie pecks at them. But Drama has even taken a peck in the eye from either Cocoa or Rocha and didn't react - so I'm hoping I'll be safe integrating Latte and Drama together. I'm glad Drama is so mild mannered.
As for eggs... one BCM still has a pip, the other is zipping a tiny bit. I can also hear the occasional chirp.
And, I'm not sure if one of the OE eggs has a tiny deformity that I never noticed before, or if it is pipping.
I hope it is pipping!![]()

Glad Drama is so good with the little ones, it will be easier to put Latte with her and have everyone be happy.
As for the "deformity" on your egg, I laughed when I read that, because I thought the same thing when I was hatching! But it was the beginning of a pip. Lol!
