Well, Lucy got off the nest when I fed everyone mealworms in the run, nabbed a fast meal, went out to the creek to take a huge poop and get a drink, and went back to the nest! She was thrilled when I brought her a 5th wooden egg! She trilled happily and shoved it underneath herself with her beak. It's so adorable!

I have a cutco knife (the carving one) but for some reason I don't think it would do the job...I am going to find a tool to have around just in case

That is very promising news. The huge poop is a good indicator for her being broody.

I would still work with her for a few days to make sure she is committed before giving her real eggs. Looks like you may have chicks in a month

Been a long time, I won't be able to catch up on zillions of pages of posts but hope everyone is well. I just ordered chicks for delivery later this year, and am looking forward to raising new layers. My current girls are still coming back from molt and no eggs...I may have to see if any BYCers have any to sell if they don't start up again soon!

Robin, I just took a close look at your avatar and realized you have a Silkie in there. I though all this time it was your border collie sprawled out. Hahaha

Nope, he's an Aussie (might I commend you for your taste in dogs), and that Silkie was his special friend. I got a lot of guff for having "matching" critters, but what the heck I enjoyed them.

Should I move her sooner or later to the rabbit hutch? I can't let her stay in the big girl coop, the chicks wouldn't be safe enough. If I need to move her ASAP, I'll have to get that curtain over the front of the hutch so she can be warmer. It's SO cold for me to think of putting her outside in the covered run in the hutch. Poor girl!But the nest boxes in the coop aren't any warmer I guess.

When you do decide to move her (which sounds like you will be soon with the way she is acting) Not only would I move her at night, but I would wait to get eggs until you move her with the dummy eggs. Just in case she gets freaked out by the move and does not want to sit any where but the coop.

And I want to say that I've very glad I didn't have to stand in that line to buy a ticket for the gun show. WOW was that a huge line. Giant when we went in, giant when we left. The line inside to buy membership was huge, too.

We have seen this same thing and laughed just as hard. I made a joke (only a joke) about starting a profile on there as if I was a sheep or something. LOL Again I would not really do it, but we had a good laugh, or at least I did. I may have been alone on that.

Well, she has now spent 7 hours in the nest box today, arranging and rearranging the nest, trilling, puffed up, sweet as can be (I know that's not actually normal, but it is for her, she's super sweet!), with only one break. She's broody. So here's my APB for eggs:

I need fertile eggs! They don't have to be purebred although that's ideal. I really really want some Barred Rocks and a sex link type bird; anything that lays well will be considered. No bantams or silkies thanks. I will drive to get them Monday or Tuesday, would like not to drive further than an hour if it can be helped.
