Well I can't tell you which to do or exactly when he will crow. But my only thought is if he starts crowing on a Monday then you have 4-5 days of him crowing and bugging your neighbors until you can take him to auction that Saterday. You can also take him to Monroe Farm and feed, they wont pay you for him but they will take him.

Good to know. That's a long drive, but if I have to make it, I will.

And... yep, we kept him.

It is so cold here during the day I put a brooder lamp out for my 12yo dog to stay toasty.

I bet he LOVED the heat lamp!

Been a long time, I won't be able to catch up on zillions of pages of posts but hope everyone is well. I just ordered chicks for delivery later this year, and am looking forward to raising new layers. My current girls are still coming back from molt and no eggs...I may have to see if any BYCers have any to sell if they don't start up again soon!

Welcome back! I hope your girls start laying soon. Have all of them stopped?

I will be saying goodbye to my LF today. They are going to their new home. I just don't have time for them anymore and I want to focus more on showing Bantams.

Ren I have Bogs.


I've tried on Bogs before.  They don't fit my orthotics very well.  Hunters fit them perfect!  But - Hunters are extremely expensive.  DH bought me the pair I have when Costco carried them a few years ago for $79.  Every time I go to Costco I keep hoping Costco will have them in again.  If you ever see them there, please let me know!  They are usually between $130 and $140.

Bad feet run in my family.  I have bad feet and my oldest son does too.  He has to have custom orthotics to help him walk, too.  He will probably have to have foot surgery in his teens.  But, we are grateful that he nor I were born with club feet like my mom.  Every pregnancy seeing "good" feet was a big concern.  Our issues are minor compared to hers.

You and me on the "bad feet run in my family" thing (pun appreciated if unintended): on top of the bunions/collapsed metatarsal arch that I inherited from Grandma Jane, I've got the unstable tarsal fascia from Dad's side of the family, plus really really wide feet even before they started degenerating into cartoons of themself.

Add to that the fact that I've never driven and spent many decades pushing 200pounds of not-fluffy around by my calf muscles, and I can't find any waterproof boots more than ankle-high that fit.

I'm a little worried about one of the Cochins. Whenever I check on them, she's always sleeping, almost always alone, under the heat lamp. And when I stick my hands in there and talk to them, she continues sleeping, while the others take off running. Even when I pick her up, she opens her eyes for a second, and then goes back to sleep. She did just drink a bunch of water. I don't know when the last time she ate was, but they have medicated chick starter avalible to them at all times. The only reason I'm worried is because last time I had a chick like this, it died 5 days after I got it. Here she is, about 15 minutes ago:

I really don't want to loose her as she is the sweetest of the chicks so far, and the most people friendly, vs. Klondike and his accomplice.

Do you have any chick saver or nutri-drench? Even sugar water - a teaspoon in an ounce or two of water - will help boost her energy level up to where she can eat and drink properly. Do it soon - she does not look good to me.
