Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The Black Coppers are coming, The Black Coppers are coming, The Black Coppers are HERE!!!
Call me if you would like to get your start on these guys.

BCM chicks - can you tell me... if a 6-week-old BCM chick has a copper head and neck, is he, for certain, a boy?  And, if they don't have a copper head and neck by 6 weeks, are they girls?

Chicken math, chicken math, chicken math!! Dang it! I really want some BCM's!! The idea of having some gorgeous dark brown eggs has me all giddy!! Who's close to Castle Rock that can make this happen sometime in the next few months?

Here are my girls.... The buttercup in front, the buff orp in back, and then two Delia's and two barred rocks.... They are all 6-8 months

Aww, they are cute!!!

I might have a bitter sweet day coming up. Someone is interested in all of the chickens I have for sale. I have a feeling they might be going for the pot but I havent been able to find them "pet" homes and my babies are growing faster than I will be able to put up a larger coop

. I have to think to myself that even if they are going to be raised for meat, they will most likely be going to a larger coop and fed very well.

Hugs!

You are not alone. Blackie has his day coming soon, too. Just not sure when I can bring myself to it. Should-a got rid of him when he was ticking me off with my not being able to catch him. Now that he's putting himself to bed in the coop with big girls, I like him again.

Random post for the day. Anyone else get a kick out of watching their chickens run? They crack me up! They kind of remind me of little dinosaurs, like a t-rex/valasaraptor mix (sorry, I'm sure I spelled that all wrong). But anyway, I love it!!

Anyone know how long is typical for a broody to be off nest each day? Lucy gets off on her own once a day in the morning and so far she's been off for 15 minutes with no signs of goin back inside yet. She's out free ranging with the rest of the girls in the rain eating loads of grass. I gave her some mealworms for more protein than the layer feed they're all on still and am buyi g BOSS today :)

I have been working on them for years.
I finally got a real good batch going.
Keep tryng, it will happen, eventually.

So the only BCM that I think is a pullet has a bit of copper mixed in the neck. Can pullets have that? Or do I have 4 BCM boys? She has a small comb, the other three have huge combs.

AAAAh, ya.
Your over Roostered.
I see two hens in the middle. Some of them are turned and the one is to straight on....
Try hatching @ 99.0- 99.2
Just sayin'

So temp DOES affect the sex then? I did a bunch of research trying to find proof if temperatures did or not. My husband's niece, who has raised hundreds of chickens, pheasant and quail says it does. I followed the Brinsea directions to the "T". Given that I've hatched twice and got 1 pullet/3 cockerels the first time and what is now looking like 2 or 3 pullets and 5 or 6 cockerels the 2nd time, I'm really beginning to wonder if I had something set wrong.

I'm wondering if Klondike is not a Bantam like I was told... I'm thing maybe a LF? I have no clue, but his legs are still really long. If he is a LF, he is going to have to find a new home.

Give it time. If you were told he was a Bantam, he probably is. Some people say boys are smaller, but all of my boys to date have been bigger than my girls - significantly bigger. There's a pretty good chance Klondike is just a boy.

I can chuckle about your situation because for weeks DH and I were absolutely positive that Latte was bantam. Probably drove the Chicken Rustler crazy over it!

Then, when we saw what a bantam really looked like, we realized she was definitely LF. Her 3 brothers were just REALLY big.
