Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Well I might as well tell y'all; we might be moving to Maryland this year. Like...there's a distinct possibility (that wasn't there 3 weeks ago) that we could be relocated to MD by summer time. I'm freaking out just a bit at the thought of what to do with my chickens. They were my first thought. Kids? Meh, they'll adjust and we home school so we can do it anywhere. Hubby? He'll be in job heaven. House? We'll buy a ranch or farm probably. My current chickens?

I doubt we'd be able to bring them with.

i wont lie I sell eggs to friends/family. While it is public I don't have any special labels or anything. I use old egg cartons and they return them to be refilled. I think as long as I only sell to close friends and family it's fine. I mean I'm not making even enough to pay for their feed. Just enough to help out with some of the cost.
I'm sure a lot of us sell to friends and family. I also give eggs to friends and family when they lose a job, or make to much for food stamps yet barely make enough to pay their bills.
This is probably cool, but when you take cartons of eggs to a school or tavern, or nursing home, or anywhere OUT IN PUBLIC, you must label where they came from, that's all, and it is easy, just stick an address label on the egg carton.
You can get fancy & buy address labels with such as "Fresh eggs from ________________"
Or you can just use your address labels.
Easy enough.

Well, I've been away for a few months, but I'm back. Got my first 2 babies today. A RIR and a light Brahma. The Blue laced red Wyandotte arrive Friday for picking. I'm getting one of them, and my GF that is raising the babies is getting one also. They are safe and sound inside her home until they are feathered.

I'm so excited to know they will be home soon. I've cleaned the former goat pen, and now to setup the coop and I'm taking our old trampoline and putting chicken fabric around it to make my version of a tractor.

It would probably be a good idea for anyone showing their chickens to band it with a number and take pictures of the band and the chicken with their cellphone. Just way of proving it. Sad that it comes to that, people would take another persons chicken :(
That said, I have never seen anyone's birds be stolen in any shows out here.
But, it pays to band, and write down your bird, age, sex, etc.
I myself do not like to let my birds be caged for show without my being there, such as a 2 day show.
I never have.
Some do, I do not.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that would give your feathery family members a good home on here. But it's to bad you'd have to re-home them. Maybe check into having them shipped over there by uship.com They ship all kinds of animals. Then you could take them with you.

Could probably just use a marker and write on the carton "farm fresh eggs from........" Then it would be legal right? :)

This is a true story, just ask CR !!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a horrible winter...T-Hi was socked in with ice, Anna was socked in with snow and ice storm on top of it...no one could get to anyone to help out......and no one had power.
All my pen netting got ice, then snow, then ice, so heavy and it all caved in, all pens closed off covered in ice & snow...some fencing caved in cuz the pen netting was attched to the fencing, actually bent T posts over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CR had the same thing: pen nets caved & T posts bent over !
Swartzzeneger could not bend a T post like that !
It was awful !!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'm out to go move birds, from one coop to another & one brooder to another................C-YA

And Jean, I may get 1 more Marek's from you at the show, I have not used the last one which expired 12/12 as I though I would...never did set the eggs I thought I was going to, so you think it is still viable ?
