Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Lol day 8 of incubation.   I thought i was the only one that keeps checking the eggs, the temp the humidity.  I have a hard time keeping hands off.   Maybe that is why i'm not very successful lately.    I use to keep busy doing other things.   In this rainy season not much to do to keep my mind off the eggs.
i even have a log book that has a record of temp and humidity( 3 devices in it to be sure) and time of day... What side they are turned on... I may be obsessing!!

I am just so sad. I am losing my rooster "Arnold". He is just a year old and was fine a week ago. Now his color is really bad and he is really weak. One of the other roosters died in the fall. Usually it is the girls that have problems and the boys live for ever. And the girls are fine so far. So I am perplexed. I am taking him to Dr Bruce tomorrow to have a necropsy done to see if they find anything contagious or congenital or anything.

Sounds like a good idea to find out what is going on. Also i suggest googling the food you are feeding. Maybe it's been recalled or something? Always keep the tag when you get feed for any animals in case of recalls or in case your animals get sick from the food.

Check your feed storage area. Water got into the bottom of my scratch and I lost several birds last month to botulism/mold. I freaked and was thinking it could have been so many diseases, but the symptoms were bad feed. I was stirring up the scratch and hit a tough part and saw the mold. I felt so very bad. I tried everything to save them. Was force feeding my brahma rooster for several days with no improvement. Bawled my head off when I had to put that friendly boy down. When the girls were showing signs, I didn't let them get to far before we put them down. The first pullet to die had textbook botulism poisoning.

Little things can make me happy. Since our big back yard "remodel" last year, I realized I had probably done a disservice to the girls. But with chickens and a Golden Retriever at the time, our yard had turned to so much mud that I had a large brick patio installed with gravel paths all around. Of course, now there's very little area other than a few raised dirt beds for much to grow and you know how quickly any green gets eaten.

So I've decided to keep a steady supply of different seeds sprouted year round. I'm pretty excited about the selection I got and although I'd been saving jars I really like the stacked growing containers I found on Amazon while I was seed shopping.

I also plan to grow out 4- 6 different flats of grass and switch them out this summer for chicken salad bar. I have a nice mix of Omega 3 grass mix that the ladies were loving last year.

I have a 5 lb. can of mung bean sprouts and an assorted box of 12 different seeds for sprouting. DH and I plan to use some of these ourselves in sandwiches, soups, stir fry, etc., and the rest go to the flock.

Here's what I grew first! Fresh Alfalfa sprouts in our stacked containers -

I couldn't find sprouts FOR THE LIFE of me last weekend! I need to do this, has to be too easy! I LOVE LOVE LOVE sprouts and avacado on panini's!!!!!
