Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I don't quilt but my mom does. We are honored every time she gifts us such a wonderful treasure! I don't have the patience for quilting. I do knit, however! I love making stuff for the kids! Right now this is what I'm knitting for my DD who is 4:

That is so sweet of you to say! Thank you, we work very hard every day at home to raise enjoyable children. It's not often people see the hard work.

I don't post often but I do read most of the thread. I have always enjoyed your comments - leave the WA thread? Are you crazy?

It is so rare today to see a family that is well run and committed to bringing up enjoyable children. I think that you are successful because you are always doing something for your children and you genuinely enjoy their company. I think the other thing that is positive for your children is home schooling. That is so important. So many kids in public schools these days are so mean and disrespectful. We had a few of them when I was growing up but a few trips to the principal's office stopped that. Now all they can think about is how to not offend the offensive child and their offensive parent(s), Geez... better stop now....

One of our favorite places to go "out to eat" is the Whole Foods Deli in Bellevue- it;'s not far- and it's sort of fun to pretend we're at a cafeteria. That's where i kyped the idea for the kale salad- and many more :) I snap a picture of their ingredient labels over the deli food and take home, write ingredients, and fake it till I make it !

Trader Joe's has "brown" almond meal in 1 lb sacks for $5. I prefer the blanched so buy from Honeywell online, but also buy lots of it. You can buy a lb of blanched (white) almond meal at WF, probably Fred Meyers, and any health food store.

Coconut nectar tastes like this amazing carmelish-type syrup, and it's sold under many brands but the one we use is Coconut Secret brand. We also use their aminos and their vinegar.

If you want resources on "Paleo" cooking, before they called it "paleo" it was a diet known to many of us as "Specific Carbohydrate Diet". It was designed for people with IBS and Crohn's, because Elaine Gottschall's daughter had severe GI issues and was healed by the no starch, no sugar, no preservative crap diet. Then, parents of vaccine injured kids who had IBS and Lympho nodular hyperplasia in the guts, along with helicobacter Pyllori and other immune system problems found Elaine, who began helping heal our kids guts. My son was n SCD for 5+ years, and I made all our ketchup, mayo and sauces from scratch with no sugar or starch. It was many hours in the kitchen! Anyway.... The original website is PecanBread.com. They revamped it recently. Very helpful!

I am not

RainMom... Thanks for all the information! I'll start looking more closely when I'm at the store. We have a TJ close by and Freddy.
And... if you're ever in NYC check out the Whole Foods near Central Park. AMAZING! It's HUGE. I snapped a pic that said "Max Capacity 1119 People"! The Seattle stores would fit in their eating area with space left over!

I live in Snoqualmie valley....i live right outside of Carnation. Part of my sheep farm is in the flood plan.....most of the valley is under water when it floods.....
to the person who is looking to buy in the valley....ask a lot of questions....you want to live on the hill. not on the flat part of the valley.

I love the Carnation / Duval area but I'm always amazed when I see the flooding, pretty much every year. I hope someday they will no longer have homes on those parcels of land. I hate seeing people had everything ruined by flood waters.

There was a sudden thunder/hail storm while we were on the lake yesterday. It was crazy and kind of awesome.

We also poked a dead frog.

Great Pictures. Which lake is this?

I am NOT a quiter!

That is becoming quite obvious... you crack me up!

And I agree about the kids. After all, it's a fairgrounds, lots of room to run and play outside if they don't want to stare at chickens or hang out with the adults.

We love PUPPIES! He's a cute litte guy!!!

Thanks. He's turning out to be really easy compared to other puppies I've raised. today is day 2 of having him and NO accidents. he is younger then I would like, but they were sending all the puppies to homes. He's 6 weeks old.
he rides in a crate in my van without whining at all. Just sleeps the whole time. At night right now i cuddle with him because movement wakes me up but noise rarely wakes me. I don't want him to learn to pee/poop in a crate.
And he took great to the raw diet. I think it's because he's so young.

Just wanted to add having fresh eggs works out perfect for feeding a puppy raw. I save all my egg shells and then put them in a blender til they are powdered and coat his meal in it. He's to small to eat the bones so he gets his calcium from egg shell and goats milk.

Thanks Jess!!! The frustrating part is the hubby isn't changing his diet. He keeps bringing bread and other items into the house that I can't eat. That being said, he is trying to be supportive of my changing diet. Oh, and his doctor wants him to go to a nutrutionist to help him lose weight. I'm guessing they may have him try Paleo also. I've lost almost 13 pounds since the first of the year.

Jess.... I switched the tray on my mini chick feeder to a small pie pan. It's working GREAT! Thanks for the suggestion! The little Gold Star can still get up on top, but not as often.
It's hilarious to see them try to scratch in there when their little legs are just too short.

Really cute dress! I love the colors! Lucky little girl.

Did I tell you all I got a BIG dog house free from CL? Yep, a great deal and the top lifts off to make it easy to get inside to clean, and easier to move too. It's 3' wide by 4' long and 4' tall.
So today with the sun out I'm going to clean it out really well and get it set up for these 4 chicks when they go outdoors eventually. DH has been considering how to put a secure door on it. I know it won't be in use all that long, but I want the little GIRLS (I'm willing ALL 4 to be girls) to have a snug home until they join the adults. It would also be great any time I need a quarantine area.
That combined with a similar size dog kennel seems like a good thing.
My DH keeps asking WHY / WHEN / HOW COME questions that I can't answer yet!

I don't know when they'll be too big for the tub they're in. Don't know where I'll put the dog kennel for their next stage, probably the garage. But don't they need daylight -- that always concerns me, keeping them in a garage or shed all the time.

Don't know exactly when they'll go outside and how the kennel/dog house/open area will be configured. Can't think that far ahead. Guess I'll just handle it when the time comes. Right?

Suggestions are welcome!
