If it came with some advice I would get several dozzen. I have lots of expierence with day old on up, but this is first ime around with an incubator.

Put fertile eggs into your RonCo Incubator and .... SET IT AND FORGET IT!!

Errr.. wait....

Get a Hovabator Genisis -- and set it and forget it --- ok ok .. check it every day for temp and humidity - add water to resivior 1 if the humidty gets below 40%. On day 18, remove the auto-turner, and add water to both resivors (1 and 2). That will raise the humidity to ~55%, no touchie now ... wait till hatch. Enjoy :)

How do you keep up with all the posts here? I missed couple of hours and BOOM --- 200 posts already.

I don't sleep. I wake up once an hour to check the thread. Nah... geeze I'm not that bad. I skim the posts.

Can anyone tell me how to raise the humidity in the incubator? I have been running for a few hrs now and my temp is right at 100 but humidity is only at 39%. I know its suppose to be between 45-55%. Is it because the water was too cool?

KM - fill resivor 1 full for hatching, add water to R2 when it's time for lockdown. We can talk more about it tomorrow :)

Good morning everybody!! I forgot to give the update on Sophia yesterday. I checked on her before DH went to bed the other night and she had moved right in the middle of the other chicks to go to sleep, so I left her out in the coop. I made him go with me to check on her in the morning, and she had perked back up and was running around with the rest of the golden girls like normal. So, I guess she must have just been traumatized by all the action in the coop, thanks to DS and the muttleys. I have now Logan-proofed the door, so that won't happen again. I also sat him down and let him know that he is not to enter the coop without me with him and that the dogs are not welcome inside. He said he understood, but he is 5. I did tell him that if I catch him near the coop with the dogs, that I will spank him. That seemed to make the light bulb come on. Poor kid. He loves all the animals, but I have to keep a close eye on him. A couple of weeks ago, he let my big QH mare out of her stall and out the front of the barn, with no halter or lead rope, because he "just wanted to ride her". UGH. I have not run that fast in a very long time. Here he is, having a morning snack with his other best friend, Nikita.

What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon! Beautiful pictures!

I have two white Leghorns and they are definitely my most curious & energetic girls! They are so fun to watch. After I brought them home I started to regret getting them because of all the negativity but this year I am kind of regretting not getting another one! I call them the Jack Russell Terriers of chickens, I think it describes them perfectly.
Thank you. I wish I had joined this group before I started picking out chicks, it is nice to get so much feedback about the different breeds, rather than reading random people's reviews. So many of the breeds, people seem to either love them or hate them. I tried to get dual purpose birds, so well, you know. But I am not sure how well I will do with that, once I have gotten to know them.

I definitely will get some more Leghorns. The one little one I have is fun to watch, and seems to have a pretty quirky little personality, but like I said, she is just not as people friendly as my other chicks. After reading what you all have to say, I will definitely give them a try. Yay!! I might go pick some up today. We'll see how my morning goes. I left the water on at the barn last night, so when DH went to let the big kids out for the day, the front entry was flooded. OOPS. I hope that is not an indication of how my morning is going to go.
