Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I went home on my lunch break... Red mites. That's all I can say. In the rabbit hutch. What do I do!? I'm freaking out!!! I cant have bunnies in a hutch full of mites! That's awful. Everything I've read says to burn the bedding and thoroughly clean the entire enclosure with a bleach solution. Then someone mentioned spreading DE. What's the best way to get rid of these tiny monsters? And why the heck were they so active in mid-day? I thought they were night time bugs.
wow, I never had them on my rabbits.
Try permethrin, but I cannot remember if it is toxic to rabbits or not...go to the feed store & read the label on a can of poultry dust (permethrin, poultry & vegie dust) and if it is OK, dust down the nest & the Momma rabit, that should do it just fine, but do not use it if it is toxic to rabbits.

I have a can of it here, let me go read the label~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Time to pack the truck for the drive to Monroe.
To spot me .. I'm about 6' 5", full head of shock-white hair. ~24 yrs old.

And, if you get up close you can spot the left eye is different from the right, due to an early morning duel at sunset, and they made the new one the wrong colour. (he'sll probable be wearing shades)

OK...so I came home with 11 chicks. I got 2 Anconas, 4 White Leghorns, 1 Blue Andalusian, 1 California Gray, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 Polish? bantam (looks like it has a large knot on it's head) ANNNDDD just by chance, they had a Buff Cochin (not bantam). I could not believe my luck. I really think I would like a blue or maybe a Silver Laced, but I was just happy that they had one. I love how it looks like they are wearing pants. DH wasn't even upset that I spent more than intended. Here is a picture of them still in the box. Some of them are SO tiny!!! OMGoodness, I am so excited!! So glad that I did not go get the $6 hens!!

Mom had to tie down the doors on her parrotlet cage. The one boy would open them and get out.

Her amazon will lift the little doors where you slide the food and water bowls in and get out.

ALL of the remotes in Mom's house are kept buttons down. The little boys did a number on them when she first got them.

The amazon is a bad girl! She is nice to the little kids in the family, but she doesn't like any adult other than Mom. She'll come up near you and " *kiss* Love You" then tries to take a chunk out of you. She stalks me. Oh but she's so sweet and sucks up if I have something she wants a bite of.

The parrotlets were the best talkers. Hawk who died last year would talk up a storm in his tiny little voice. You'd tell him "you're so sweet" and he'd look at you and say "cute", and vice versa. I liked to be holding him and have him facing away and tell him "You're so tasty" and he'd spin around so fast and say "get you" and try and bite me. He was very careful and loved to play games. He liked to play chase across the table. You run your fingers after him saying "get you" then when he got to the other side of the table, he'd turn around and rub his beak on the ground, half spread his wings and say "get you, get you" and chase you to the other side. Rinse repeat. He was such a darling little boy. Think Mom had him 11 years. He liked to go hang upside down off the bottom of the door by one foot to get you to come rescue him. He'd got caught once and liked the attention so he kept doing it no matter what Mom tried to do to stop it. He fell at just the wrong angle the last time.
They are fun to have around, that's for sure. That is so sad about the little guy. I love the parrotlets, they are funny. My mom had some, but my brother's cat knocked their cage off the table and killed them.

What is this Graham Hay Market you speak of???

In Central Tacoma, there is NOWHERE to go for feed! Found that out last night, had to drive across the bridge at 7pm!
Depending on where you are, there used to be a small feed store on 99th off of Pacific, behind the bank there. If I remember correctly, they might have been a little high for some things, but it's been years since I have been in there.
That is much closer to her.

Graham Hay Market is only 4 miles from me. And there is another Feed store to the south. Webster Road Farm and Feed.
I totally forgot about Webster Road!! That is closer to me than Graham and is also family owned. I have been trying to give more business to local businesses and not so much to the chains and such. I will have to take a trip out there.

Quote: Ok. I have been using Sevin Dust, because it's safe for them, but I haven't dusted in a few weeks, maybe a month. I'll light the whole hutch on fire if I have to. It was gross! I still feel itchy and I didn't even touch them! Yuck! I put Sevin Dust on before I came back to work and within minutes they started to dispurse, but I'm not sure I can get it all over every square inch.

Careful, it make be a bit too much for the babies !
I did not see any warnings on either the Permethrin II label (concentrated liquid for spary) or the dust (as shown in the photo) but I thought it was toxic to cats, and rabbits.
Best google what to do for bunnies.

so I have a full set of processing equipment and a wonderful coverd pad that looks out over snohomish valley. I was thinking that may be some people would like to raise small batches of meat birds. If they were started at the same time I would offer my place and expierence to have a group processing class. If everyone pitched in a little for propane and shrink bags for thier own birds I would teach/share equimpent for free. I would want at least 4 or 5 people to come out and to have at least 50 birds to make it worth it, but more would be fine.

what do ya think?
