Are millit, brown rice, and quinoa the best to use? Can I use barley? What about lentils?Say you have a bag of millet, a bag of brown rice and a bag of quinoq, and a 50# sack of chicken scratch.
You get 1 cup of each & dump in a big pot & add 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of grains.
If you want less, devide the recipe in half.
So 1 cup of quinoa, 1 cup of rice & 1 cup of scratch would need 6 cups of water.
Bring the water to a boil, dump the grains in & cook as you would rice.
When done, keep in a big container in the fridge and dish out as necessary.
If you have alot of babies you would do more, less, do less.
I feed mine a CUP of this 2X a day...especially turkeys and Large fowl that need the extra protein.
These large boned breeds, as well as Cornish cross, get Broiler Max in their water, as well as Corid in their water and fed Flock raiser or Turkey/gamebird starter...they need the higher protein until they are grown...after that, high protein feed can be too much for their kidneys & even give them fatty liver disease and gout.
This is a very mild looking Muscovie, some have large horrible red looking things above their beaks, at first I thought they were diseased. I guess I don't have to tell you I am not a fan of there's. I love all other ducks tho, geese I was pinched too many times as a kid to really enjoy them except at the shows.Do they require open acess to water? Do they wander? Do they require a pen or can they free roam? We have 5 acres, 4 of which are wooded and natural hilly area with plent of predators. If the ducks would need to be penned it will have to wait a while. Gotta get my girls settled and laying first.
I would stay away from to much lentils. there is not a lot of research on them in regards to poultry, but at least one study showed a dimenshing returen beyond an inclusion rate of 10%. anacdotally(sp) I have heard from other feed producers that lentils actually have a growth inhibiter effect,Are millit, brown rice, and quinoa the best to use? yes.........but if you must do something & suspect she is egg bound, try a warm bath....slow & spa like and massage her bottom....and sometimes a wee bit of EVOO in the vent will help.
Then a nice warm towel & soft blow dry~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good to know. Since I'm not eating legumes (lentils included) I have extras and was wondering if I could use them that way. Guess not.I would stay away from to much lentils. there is not a lot of research on them in regards to poultry, but at least one study showed a dimenshing returen beyond an inclusion rate of 10%. anacdotally(sp) I have heard from other feed producers that lentils actually have a growth inhibiter effect,
look in my signaturepbjls - I need to go back and find your feed offer. I am interested in the processing class, too. I don't have room to grow meaties but maybe someone with more space could grow a few for me. (I'd be happy to pay.)
