Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So I don't know if I mentioned that yesterday something in the poultry show set off my allergies again. I *think* it's the shavings! Every single time I visit my chickens throughout the day, I come inside to terrible allergies. I woke up this morning with swollen, sand-paper feeling eyes, swollen throat, runny/stuffy nose, and general miserableness. I took 6 Benadryl today just to control it! Good thing it doesn't knock me out because as much as I took, most people would be comatose! LOL I'm about to take my 7th dose of Benadryl and head to bed. That's a pill every 2 hours all day long to manage this issue. I may have to change our coop bedding because this is serious misery. The whole ride home from the show yesterday my eyes watered and I "cried" and couldn't stop it and I sneezed/coughed until I got some Benadryl into me. UGH. nuff said.

I know that tree pollen and grasses are VERY high right now. Think of your body as a cup, and the liquid inside is the allergens you are exposed to. Normally it does not get full in the course of a day, except when you are exposed to extra high amounts and the cup overflows, that is when you become symptomatic. That was me a couple of weeks ago. Normally I tolerate mold, grass and pollens with my meds. But I was also exposed to latex, which is getting worse and worse, and that overfilled my "cup" and got the swollen face. If I was you I would go to the Dr. and maybe go through a dose of prednisone. It got my body back under control(temporary fix though). I am gonna get tested for allergies again(went through that and shot series in the 80's) and see if I need shots again.

Thanks Travis, I do know how it works, I have just been caught of guard with how severe this reaction has been. Usually I'm fine with my daily double dose of Zyrtec, and for about a week I thought a cold was coming on; nope! It was a really bad allergy breaking through.

I'm glad everyone had a really great time at the show. I really wish I would have gone, but hindsight is 20/20 right?

Does anyone else ever have the feeling that they're better off without the family they were born to? Some people make THE stupidest decisions/choices and they don't care that it affects everyone else.

I'm going to the April show in Vancouver if it's the last thing I do, I'll even turn my phone off and go AWOL for 3 days before if that'll guarantee my attendance.

Ok... off my soapbox... for now.

Have a great day!

three things....

1.  I am looking for  6 to 8 dozzen hatching eggs that are low priced, larger breed egg layers type.  if you have a lead on this let me know.

2. I talked to a couple people at the show yesterday and there does seem to be some interest in doing a couple of processing classes.  I am propossing two events at my place.  one would be for culls and roos and the second would be for meat birds.  I have a great processing set up and a lot of expierence.  It would be open to people with or without expierence, and low pressure.  If it is just too hard for some they don't have to do or even watch.

The cull and roo day could be any time.  A meat bird day I would order in chicks for everyone who wanted to participate (I have a wholesale account with welp) so we could start a thread on how raising them is going and they should all be ready to butcher at the same time.

3. for anyone that I missed yesterday or just could not make it I am changing it from a show special to just a byc first time purchase special.  first bucket half price for any byc poster.  yall are great and worth it.

Paul, what is the 'bucket' about/for?
I seriously wish I had a spot to do meat birds this year.... Maybe next year....

OK for those wondering about putting chicks under a hen. The 2 little Silkies I got from Kim (what was I thinking) are not ready to be totally off the light yet. I put a light in but it is high so it barely gets warm on the floor. But not to worry see I put Silkiebator in with them. I just did a final check and she has them pushed back in a corner and is trying to cover them.

Not saying this will work for others but it just shows it can work.

And just because the Sweet-n-Sour Roadkill seems so popular. Against my (lack of) better judgement. I am going to let the secret out. Now I suppose I will have to figure out something new for future gatherings!

OK so I use meatballs, smoked sausage chunks (like Kielbasa), little smokies and the TOP SECRET ITEM is .......... no no no I can't do it I can't tell.
OK OK OK ya talked me into it.

Thank you Rob! I had it figured out, but it's good to know exactly what sauce you used ;) My kids ate it. There are few things they will eat reliably so I just had to know how to make it! I'm going to skip the sausage and just make the meatballs and smokies. Do you just throw it all in a pot together?

Quote: Yes I just put all the meat in then pour the sauce over. For a batch like I had there I do 2 lbs of meatballs, 2 rings of the sausage, 2 pkg of smokies and then pour 3 cans of sauce over. It takes my crock about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to get hot then I hold it on warm until ready to serve.

This sauce also makes very good S-n-S chicken or pork (like Chinese) or S-n-S chops. Just bake the meat until done. Drain and pour sauce over.

the last straw with my family was when my mother past. she asked for me the first day they moved her into hospice. they did not call me for three days even though there was a phone next to the bed. I got there as fast as I could, but she was already gone and I did not get to speak to her.
