My 4 Wheaten Ameraucana eggs went into lockdown this morning!

I should have chicks in the next few days. I'm going to try and let my Silkies raise them, but they are first time broodys so I'm not sure how they'll do yet. I guess I should get the brooder ready just in case.

For those of you who have Silkies - I have 3 girls in one pen, but only 2 have been broody. If the chicks are being raised by the 2 broodys will the third girl (Pearlie June) leave them alone? Or will the broody moms do a good job protecting the babies?

I'm inclined to think that Pearlie June will be okay with them even though they aren't "her" babies because soon after I had set the eggs I was kind of messing with them to get them under the broodys and Pearlie June came up and bit me twice. I think she was ticked that I was messing with their eggs! She's always been really sweet and has never ever bitten before and as soon as I quit touching their eggs she was fine. Are the Silkies just naturally maternal all the time whether they're broody or not?

These are all Catdance Silkies. And KMHunter - Pearlie June is the odd little girl I picked up from Karen the day we visited. What a character she is! She's definitely the homeliest of the bunch, as the other two are so pretty, but she's got personality in spades!

Show us pics of Pearlie June if you can.

I am in the Snohomish, Monroe area. I am lucky enough to be "land rich" but have no gardening skills. I am looking for someone to teach and tend a large garden and share produce. anyone around here fit that bill?

I have a tractor with tiller to prepair the ground and am willing to do most of the seed and start purchases and all of the fuel.

Hey, speaking of me being "dangerous"

So I went to the gas station store to get my daily fix ( 2 one litters of Wild Cherry Pepsi and two bags of chips) and as soon as I walked in the owner and her daughter began yelling to me...:Your in the paper, your in the paper!" I was so confused. Then they stopped, and asked "wait, how old are you?" I told them 27. Then it was, "Yeah we were right it is you!" They ran over to the news paper rack and grabbed this paper....

They thumbed through it for a moment and found what they were looking for on page 3. "See, See, here you are. We knew it was you as soon as we read the story."
Here check it out for your selves.

This made my day. Not just because it was me, but because you will hardly ever hear of situations where a normal citizen did good buy carrying and maybe even pulling their personal weapon! "They" like to keep that kind of stuff on the Hush hush

My silkies are all fine with chicks. I absolutely love my silkie rooster. He earns his keep with the chicks. He will feed them and allows them to warm up under him.

All of my silkies allow chicks to sleep under them. I like them all being together as it adds extra warmth with the pile they sleep in.
