Welcome - especially another Airedale lover!


Ok, got it wrong - the Irish do look a lot like the Airedale though (mine wasn't clipped in this pic).

Love the Airedales too, almost got one, how is yours with the birds? I show my dog too (sometimes, it's a lot more involved than chicken shows!) so he is hand stripped rather than clipped, which is one of big reasons I went Irish over Airedale because that's a lot of coat to strip.

EDIT: Chickielady - I notice your signature says you have Partridge Chanteclers, don't suppose you sell chicks or adults do you? They are one of the breeds I want to work with most but I'm having a heck of a time finding them. You can respond here or PM either way.

WOW! That's awesome....

Well.... it seems pretty unanimous among those that raise wheaten ameraucanas that my little buddy Dash is a cockerel. He has such a nice personality I was hoping he might be a pullet. Oh well. So I need to find him a new home. Is there anyone here that's interested in one of Cowgirlgrace's Wheaten Ameraucana cockerels? If he's anything like the roos I saw at her place he's going to be a beauty.

First off all of this happened in a total of about 8 minutes, from the time I told the woman in the truck to leave to when they finally got to the light and took off out of sight. I in no way knew that there was a threat until I had kicked open the door and the men were there with their "weapons" raised to me (which they dropped and lowered as soon as they saw my gun). I yelled to the kids to run to the house and lock the doors at the same time as I WAS DIALING 911! That is why Maxx was walking in front of the truck, to go home. By that time dispatch was transferring my call to the right dispatch for my area after I told her what was going on along with my address and at that point the men had already ran into the truck to take off. They were only about 1/3rd of the way down the street when the correct dispatch picked up and I had to say my address TWO more times before they would even let me tell them the truck plate number. By then so many numbers had come out of my mouth and my adrenelin pumping like never before I could no longer remember the plate number other than the first two and last two, which I gave them.
In NO WAY did I put my property before my children and I can tell you right now if Maxx or any of my other children had been hit or even a toe ran over I would have unloaded my clip into the tires as they drove away. The only thing I wish I had done different is to use my phone camera and take a pic of the plate number before calling 911.
My children are my life and I will never defend anything else over my children ever. I am proud of what I did and have no reason not to be.
But thanks for your input anyway. I do know that every one has an opinion and while I may not agree with every ones, I do not dwell on it, I only take it with a grain of salt.

You did do the right thing. The police are NOT always there to protect us like so many choose to believe. Crimes are almost always LONG over and the criminal is gone by the time police get to the scene. We MUST re-learn (not in your case) how to protect ourselves, our families, and our property for ourselves or we give up the right to feel safe. Great job Sarah.

I opened the email I use for craigslist this morning, trying to steel myself for a quick round of "spot the least crazy respondant" and hooray, hooray, hallelujah and huzzah! right there four lines down was somebody I've known his whole life, since he was the baby in a family of younger 4Hers when I was a Junior Leader.


It's enough to make my day even though it has just once again started to pour down rain when I was finished with my morning chores.

Thank you both; I was really dreading having to deal with strangers; all the long-shot dangers aside (for which I have 911 on speed dial), the likelyhood of having to deal with somebody who will not leave and talks on and on about what I'm doing wrong with my roses, say, is always high.

I am curious about the happenings of a coop tour. I'm a wee bit anti-social and awkward in groups of any size if they don't get my inside jokes

Do they get awkward at any point? Are people just randomly walking through your yard that day? Is there like, a tour bus??
